Furiphone FLX1 with FuriOS
-
I see a few articles here and there in the specialist press about a new Linux Phone project: the Furiphone.
Launched in the USA last August and based on Debian 13 and the Gnome desktop environment, FuriOS uses a homemade version of WayDroid to run Android applications. The system would support IMS technology for VoLTE calls.
A visit to the website of the (commercial) distributor https://furilabs.com/ quickly reveals the hand-crafted nature of the project. Nevertheless, it could prove somehow interesting.
The ‘FAQ’ pages indicate that the developers have no plans to integrate another OS on this device, but are quite open to the development of an alternative OS if it is supported by the third-party organisation, why not Ubuntu Touch in the future.....So much for this just "nice to know" news item.

@tuXut Not at all.
Don't know how the project is going now, but it seems the devices are now ready to be ordered on their website. -
@Moem
Thanks, I know the site -
@stanwood
1 series is already sold out...
Just thought that you already had such a device in your hand... -
@tuXut Ok, well no... I'm sorry.
But I would be curious to see it running Ubuntu Touch one day -
@stanwood
Me too... I would like to try out the FuriOS... -
It has already been posted somewhere on this forum a few days ago by @libremax so sorry for the duplication...
Ubuntu Touch seems to be running (well) on the new Furiphone FLX1 and should be officially be part of our supported devices I hope quite soon.
It will/should support double boot feature with FuriOS as well as possibly VoLTE.Picture available here: https://t.me/furilabs_chat/29378

I tried to look for reviews of this phone I can't seem to find a decent one on Youtube. One video says full review but the video never even showed the device in use

@kugiigi
Maybe this is something... -
@tuXut Interesting and definitely worth to watch. (Use a live translation subtitle because it's in German)
Though, no mention to Ubuntu Touch nor UBports in the video.
@libremax has gave further information on the french Ubuntu community forum. I translate his comment below in English:
"Note that the port is being developed by the same FuriLabs team that developed the FLX1 and FuriOS.
What's more, dual boot is also supported, making it a competitor to the Volla devices.
For the moment, it works with an SD card. It remains to be seen whether the main storage memory can be used at a later date (as announced for the Volla Quintus and Volla Tablet)."Source: https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=2090409#p22829131
