@RedXXIII you can only try uninstalling the old one. I don't have both installed. It might be to some of the patches we use, that they register to the same push helper. So it might be worth uninstalling one.

@danfro Yes i did uninstall the old Cinny and that's it! New Cinny sends the notifications now 😃 Thank you very much. I'll try the bridges with signal and whatsapp and give you my feedback.

Thank you guys for making Cinny work on UT, and for sharing these bridge tutorials! This has solved so much for me!

@RedXXIII Thanks for reporting back. Good to see it confirmed, that both Cinny's can't "live" next to each other.

I see that as a feature.
Youo only have notification for one app, not double the amount (it would be annoying) 😉

Screencasting and taking a screenshot of the desktop is a solution for scanning the QR code on the same device, if you don't have a spare phone.

So I managed to set this up. Thanks for the info! That was really helpfull. But now I have no clue how to use the Signal bridge in Cinny. How do I use it to send/receive a message?

@rdfrs The easiest way is to send each contact a message through Signal or Signal Desktop and then they will appear in Cinny. You should see an invitation come in for each of them.

@rdfrs in addition to what @Moem explained, you can also go to the room with signal bridge bot, there you can type

                          • help to get a full list of available commands
                          • start-chat PHONENUMBER to start a chat from the bot end, provide the phone number in international format as +1234567890

And once you have your chats as rooms in Cinny, you can type messages there as with any other room.

Read through the thread, I believe there is a post about that. I don't use it myself.

                                Hi @rdfrs

I don't use WhatsApp, but yes there is a bridge:

I followed Sander's instructions to bridge Whatsapp through beeper and being accesible through Cinny.
It does work but I can not read the whatsapp messages as says that are encrypted.
                                  Anyone know how to solve?

@Moem Am I wrong to believe that this technique ruins end-to-end encryption and that the matrix server that acts as a relay ( here @signalbot:tchncs.de ) gets to access all your messages unencrypted?

@Marcos Did you follow the verification step?

Verify Cinny as a Matrix client. A red shield will appear in the left sidebar. Click it, choose Verify Manually, and enter the recovery key you saved when setting up your Beeper account.

It could take some time before all messages are decrypted after that. If they stay encrypted, you could also remove Whatsapp from Beeper and add your account again, now that Cinny is a verified client.

I'll be honest: I don't know! As far as I know it replaces the Signal encryption by Matrix encryption, so I guess it could, in theory, snoop? But I'm not an expert.
In any case, if you're worried about that it's probably better not to use this method.

Well I'm not sure, but it seems like the signalbot server : tchncs.de is the one who connects to signal, and fetches messages, decrypts them, and then redirects them through matrix. So they get to have the possibility to see unencrypted messages, which voids a bit the utility of signal.

One interesting thing would be to be able to host the matrix bridge at home, or even on the phone itself, but seems a bit complicated.

If the encryption matters to you, then it does. I think you should only use a bridge if you feel you can trust the person who hosts it.

And yes, hosting it yourself is an option, but that's more work / a bit more complicated. A loss of convenience is often te price we pay for privacy / security.

I don't think it can be done on the phone. But I've never looked into it.
