Choosing the right phone?
-
I'm sorry if my original post was too salty - it wasn't meant that way. I'm staying on UBP because I like it, but the way things are done (the show) tends to put focus on new functionality, rather than fixing bugs. Unfortunately I don't know how to code, so I just donate.
As for choosing one phone, I'd propose the OPO. Make that work flawlessly (or close). It's pretty capable, available and not too pricey.
I look forward to running on a OP3 or 5, but I'm afraid my MX4 won't last long.
Who can help me with SMS/MMS? I'll be happy to supply logs etc..Regards
Grisen

@grisen no problem.

This answer is not just for you but for all the people reading the forum. There are other ways to help the project too, like translating, beta-testing, confirming bugs in the bug tracker, writing documentation, helping with UT installation, solving newbies doubts, etc

A good starting point is searching what is reported already, and then add your experience to an open bug report, or create a new bug report if it doesn't exist yet.
For example, you could start here https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues?utf8=✓&q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+mms

@grisen Hello again : ) To start with have you or can you check that all is OK from your carriers end with sms and mms settings. Either give them a call or try the sim in another phone. Then we will know exactly where we are. Also try switching airoplane mode on and off sometimes this helps reset the sim info somehow, never been sure why but worth a try.

Moving to 16.04 code base is the way chosen to help fixing bugs and security issues for the next coming years; it's not at all focusing on new functionality...
-
@libremax Ok - thanks for clarifying that. I look forward to 16.04.
@Lakota - The Sim works in non-UBP/UT-phones. I also tried switching on/off aeroplane mode. Strangely enough, I can now recieve MMS's, but they're always from "Unknown number", which is a pita. This indicates that the problem is provider specific.

Grisen

@grisen Hi , Just reread this. Is it now fixed ? when you say provider specific do you mean your sim provider or UBports? not sure from the post. Have you checked your APN settings are correct (system settings, mobile) I guess the mms box will now be ticked. Can you get emails. Lastly which phone as all of mine worked straight away but I don't have an OPO.
-
@lakota No, it's not fixed. I checked APN settings. By provider I mean carrier
Recieving MMS works, but all the MMS's seems to come from "Unknown number".
I'm using an MX4, and I can recieve emails, but they just use normal data.Regards
Grisen

@grisen Ok, the email thing was really just to check nothing else was up. One last thing try switching to the dev channel in update settings and see if that fixes anything. You can swop back to stable or Rc after if you wish but my MX4 is fine on dev. Still seems like something to do with settings or permissions somewhere though I'm not sure where.
-
@lakota Woohoo. Just switched to dev and now I can send MMS'es. Recieved MMS's are still from "Unknown number".
Thanks.Regards

@grisen Good, progress even small is still progress : ) This might be pushing it but what about sms, is that 0k.

I'm curious about helping but like many, have no technical education. I have a Nexus 4 and a 1+1 for about 8 weeks now. So I suppose I can, Test Bugs? on either. Feeling a wee helpless, I made a donation tonight as I really hate Android and Blackberry OS10 is being given Benign Neglect.

@mawil1013 Great that you want to help. Have a look at this tutorial for how to do a bug report
https://forums.ubports.com/topic/1086/bug-reporting-tutorial-on-the-news-channel-moved
Don't worry about your lack of technical skills. You'll soon pick them up. I have none either and what I do know I've picked up from others showing and helping me.
One last thing. There's no reason to copy all of the post your replying to in it. In most cases just hitting the reply button on the post or comment you are replying to is fine. Or just copy a little section if it something specific.
Hope this helps and enjoy Ubports.P.S Also have a look at these Tutorials as well
