              what about the canonical plan about "ubuntu personal" (snappy-ubuntu-core+mir+unity8)? is it still a thing?

              is there any plan about porting ubuntu touch on lowcost arm boards (eg. like raspberry Pi3) so the developers could test their apps and the system without having to buy a compatible smartphone?

              [OT] is there any plan to bring an Ultrafast or Hyperfast Broadband connection to the Marius G.'s home? his lags in the UT Q&A videos are one of the moments that I look forward to 😉

                @ivo_xavier Or will we be able to summon them with the Ubuntu button (as happens on the desktop) giving us some screen real estate?

                  A UBports blog post from Jun 14, 2017 includes the following Q&A:

                  What does Google’s Project Treble do for UBports and Halium?

                  Google recently announced “a modular base for Android” to solve the problem of having to backport Android updates to every device seperately. While Treble does sound similar to Haliums approach, it doesn’t eliminate the need for Libhybris, the translation library for Android’s bionic drivers. It remains to be seen if this project will change our life for the better, but since it’s just been announced, we can just continue what we’re doing at the moment for now.

                  Now that a few phones support Project Treble, has UBports revisited whether Project Treble will be of any help to UBports and Halium? And if so, in brief, what are the current thoughts on this?

                    Or at least delivering Unity8 as one or more snaps?

                      Obviously not at Canonical and I doubt supporting this model would be a good use of any capacity the UBports community has.

                      The experience from the Mir team is that graphics support on Ubuntu Core is still quite limited, and we are fixing various teething issues. The only Mir snap currently is mir-kiosk and to support Wayland clients we need the recent Wayland "interface". (So we are waiting on snapd 2.31 reaching "stable".)

                      Once we've updated the mir-kiosk snap, it would likely be possible to use it as a template to get Unity8 itself running in a snap. But to used "confined" snaps, as Canonical planned, would require some serious changes to the way Unity8 and its clients run.

                        Hi guys, I want to know what is the status about the uMatriks project @mariogrip in terms of push notifications and new features?
                        For most of us the only hope right now to stay in contact with our family/friends using voice/videocalls is by using Matrix. I think this project is one of the most important for Ubuntu Touch by far. Right now uMatriks is working ok, not awesome, just ok. I use my UT as daily driver so my only way to speak with video to my family is via Matrix. I know also that there were some people from the community updating the app lately. But the missing of the push notifications makes the app useless most of the times, specially if there is an emergency.

                        Thank you guys for all of your efforts, you guys are doing an AMAZING job! 🙂

                          @alan_g: Hi Alan!
                          I was not referring to canonical or about the near future obviously.
                          I was asking if that is still considered as a possible option in the long term. for what I understand one of the reasons behind the ubuntu personal was to make possible porting the userland's updates/upgrades without have to touch/know much of the kerneland. the workload ubports has everytime there is a kernel upgrade is evident (eg. the 16.04 is in elaboration for some time and then there will be probably some work to backport new bugfixs and features developed in the 16.04 branch)but in the future this could be mitigated with the ubuntu personal concept. my doubt is only about if that concept is still possible in the future or if ubports thinks it is not useful or feasible. that's all.
                          I know that before that we need deep changes to what is already there and to develop many things that are not there yet.

                              For anyone who is interested, Project Treble is discussed starting at about 25:35 in the Ubuntu Touch Q&A 24 video.
