@MrT10001 Thanks!
I am struggling…
- There is a problem with shutting down: it takes about 5 minutes to shut down or restart. However, there is no problem booting from a “cold” power on.
- The tablet always boots in “Desktop mode” if it is restarted or booted from a “cold” power on.
- Something is wrong with the text/menu in the Morph Browser. Please check this post: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/10125/ui-text-problem-in-morph
- If you touch the tablet or press the power button, the screen stays on. The only way to turn off the screen is to manually press the power button.
I used a new tablet - never used before, and tried both firmware versions: the recommended TB_X306F_S230626_230530_BMP and the latest official TB_X306F_S230940_240402_BMP, but there was no difference.
I tried flashing the firmware using SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1924_Win and also the “Rescue and Smart Assistant” tool, but there was no difference.
To install Ubuntu, I used ubports-installer_0.10.0_win_x64.Latest version: r77
Can you please share your experience?

@Spymaker My one shuts off fine. Reboot is good.
I spoke to the porter re the boot into desktop mode and he said that's what he wanted and it's not a bug.
The porter is aware of the screen touch waking up the device. He provided a boot image which I tested and it stopped the issue. It should be incorporated into the development channel, I think?
Battery life is mediocre, but that's a global issue with UT, and a lot of devices are well used and old.I have used Morph and it seems ok to me. I tend to use the tablet in portrait mode, whether that has any bearing.

Tablet so far is decent!
However I do have a few small gripes.
When I plug in a mouse and keyboard, the mouse is locked in portrait resolution even though the tablet or external display is landscape thus the mouse is mostly unusable as it is impossible to fine places to click.
When in landscape mode half of the screen libertine apps like firefox cannot be interacted with.
Wireless display is just about unusable and I have found much better results using the MirVNCServer. If the mouse and libertine problems are fixed it would be a near perfect experience.
The Morph browser dropdown menu has some problems with button icons lot aligning with click locations, but its really not a problem that I think much about.
I am glad internet advanced security menus work so I can log into my uni wifi (this is still broken on the UT pixel 3a), I am also glad to see snaps working well. However with the lack of ability to use a mouse the tablet suffers and I cannot drive it like I would like to.
I like desktop mode, but I since the tablet is not functional properly with libertine apps and mouse I don't really see the point of enforcing it.

@MrT10001 You may remember which firmware you used: the recommended TB_X306F_S230626_230530_BMP and the latest official TB_X306F_S230940_240402_BMP?
So you used manual installation https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/community-ports/android11/lenovo-tab-m10-hd/lenovo-m10-hd/-/tree/cd31621b6d5b80808dd9821c58279841e6fce6e9 not ubports-installer_0.10.0_win_x64?
Can you share image which you are using? -

Just wanted to mention that this is exacerbated in Desktop Mode, since in this mode the application lifecycle is not enforced, and any app started will run without ever being suspended.
-
@arubislander Thats good to know. I have not needed desktop mode on any UT tablet or phone yet, so haven't used it.

@Lumpology About same Morph problem I am talking. I tried even ask on Telegram for help but no reply.
I tried Sapot Browser (based on Morph): works much better. -
This post is deleted! -
@Lumpology I see what you mean with the browser side bar and the scaling.
I don't use libertine or Waydroid or wireless display as I have no need to, but they are good points to know.

@MrT10001 so you also have noticed this problem?
-
@Spymaker only this morning, I usually just type into the browser bar to get to a website, rarely use the sidebar on a phone/tablet. I guess I am easily pleased

Does anyone have any idea why shutting down and restarting takes 5 minutes? The screen goes black immediately, but it seems like something hangs in the background. I tried going back to Android and then reinstalling Ubuntu a few times, but the problem persist.

@Spymaker It wasn't on the installer when I first noticed and tried the port.
It was a fair amount of trial and error before I narrowed the installation down and got clarity with the installation. It it involved patience and resilience, and starting from scratch (recovered using the Lenovo Recovery tool quite a few times).
If you try the manual method, images are available on gitlab as you have pointed to. I would now use the installer as it is quicker and easier, works all the time (for me).

@MrT10001 You have mentioned: "The porter is aware of the screen touch waking up the device. He provided a boot image which I tested and it stopped the issue."
Regarding “It it involved patience and resilience, and starting from scratch (recovered using the Lenovo Recovery tool quite a few times).” Please believe me, I have patience I’ve started from scratch maybe 20 times, but from the first attempt, I have had this “shutting down and restarting takes 5 minutes” problem.
An important thing to note: when I installed image r73, the tablet did not stay in “Desktop mode” after a restart.
I am finding it difficult to get support and share my experience. Here, at least, someone replies and you can track messages. Telegram is nonsense: you send a message, and after a short time, tens of messages come on top, and nobody cares about what you have posted. Telegram is good for announcing that a war has started, but not for different support questions.

@Spymaker Quite a few devices suffer shut down issues. What I work round is to boot to Fasboot mode or Recovery with power and volume buttons, then shut down from there.

@MrT10001 long press of Power button will work also, but just very annoying bug. My every day work is related to QC, so I like things to work 100%
What more is headache: why I have this problem on my TB-X306F and other users do not have?!
-
@Spymaker I saw similar with the tb-x605f. Some installs went well, some just didn't throwing up issues such as battery not showing correct charge etc.. I think there may be slight revision differences between the same device family.
-
Regarding Morph: as discussed on telegram this affects other devices also, so I have created "Issue": https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/core/morph-browser/-/issues/574

I still want to go back to the question: Why does the tablet start in desktop mode by default? Why can't the user save their preferred mode? Any Idea?
