can I stop freezing waydroind when screen is off?
-
I'm trying to use GPS tracking app in waydroid, but the recording is very coarse, like half of the resolution when the app is run on a native Android. Eventually I noticed that the recording is good if I keep the HUD (the app) always on.
I suspected that it's something with throttling waydroid when the screen is off. I found a perfect way to prove that, by playing internet radio in waydroid. When I turn off the screen, the music keeps playing fine for a short while, then start chopping a little bit, then starts much longer pauses, like 1-2 seconds long.
I can see that the battery is drained fast when using the app in waydroind with screen on, but if I'm ok with the battery drain, are there some advanced settings to stop the throttling when the screen is off?
There is an app "waydroid freezer", but it let me do only the opposite

@fair Which phone is this?
This is usually an issue with media playback that doesn't use media hub such as webapps. I guess Waydroid has the same problem, when you lock the device, apps get suspended. Interesting that Waydroid is also affected considering that it doesn't really suspend. I assume your phone has proper deep sleep so apps don't just suspend, the device goes into low power mode that processes like Waydroid can't function properly anymore. -
@kugiigi Fairphone 5, waydroid 15 (android 15)
I've tried a native radio app from open store, it doesn't have the issue, but I guess it's a web based app as you've said.

@fair There is Waydroid 15 already?
In any case, I tried it on my FP5 and the playback indeed stuttered once the device went to sleep. This is probably something that needs to be fixed in the system. -

more like 1.5, it's only a decimal point

How about 'made configurable' rather than 'fixed' ? The OP said there was no problem with the battery draining fast, OTOH it's a gripe for other people.
Anyway, thanks for your explanation, it explains why when I'm connected with ssh on my fp5, very often when I start an utility that is taking time (usually downloading stuff from the net and handling it) without keyboard interaction, the process freezes after quite a limited time (surely < 1 minute) until I press enter in another ssh session or I fiddle with the power button on the phone. Maybe this class of problem could be tracked (something like a pinned bug on Github, I don't know the equivalent on Gitlab yet) and documented.

Android 15 image in Waydroid
I have a FP5 too and About phone in Waydroid displays 13. Was Android 15 installed on your phone before you installed Ubuntu Touch ? I dutifully downgraded the phone to Android 13 before installing.
