Call for testing: Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2
-
We've just released the RC image for Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2. Please take some time to switch your spare/development phone to the 24.04-1.x RC channel and test this update.
Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 is a maintenance release of 24.04-1.x series. This release contains mostly bug fixes and small improvements. The notable ones are:
- Fixes booting Ubuntu Touch on Sony Xperia X.
- Due to my Sony Xperia X starting to give up, I was not able to fully test this. Users of Sony Xperia X could help by testing this out.
- Improves mobile data stability when VoLTE is active on some carrier.
- Fixes receiving "cell broadcast" messages on multiple devices.
- Fixes deleting online accounts leaving calendars behind in Calendar app.
- Fixes switching mobile data SIM on some dual-SIM devices.
- Further fixes for importing .ics calendar event files.
- General bug fixes and security updates.
To receive Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 on a device running Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0 or newer, heads to System Settings -> Updates -> Update Settings -> Release Channel, then select "24.04-1.x Release candidate". Go back to the previous page, and then install the available update.
If your phone is running Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-11, you can receive Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 RC by first following the instructions above (but select "20.04 Release candidate" instead), then go to System Settings > Update again to upgrade to 24.04-1.2 RC.
Please note that only critical and security fixes will be able to enter Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 as this point. Normal bug fixes and new features will need to wait for our next release. Please do not discuss normal bug fixes and new features here.
Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 is expected to be released on 19 February 2026. We appreciate all testing we will receive.
At the same time, we've also released the RC image for Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-12. We have a dedicated forum post. Note: please refrain from discussing Ubuntu Touch 20.04 OTA-12 in this post.
- Fixes booting Ubuntu Touch on Sony Xperia X.

I was running 24.04-1.1 stable on my FP5 (are there people running 1.0 still ?) and selected update Ubuntu Touch, it installed the RC automatically without having to change channel. Restarted the phone without problem. Now disabling wifi, exiting settings, reentering settings and enabling wifi don't crash the phone, so it's clear progress without testing all the rest.
The most impressive app for UT, PureMaps in my opinion, works fine still, GPS works just as well (hum) as before, my ugly hack to start MorphQT6 when clicking a link works as before, my horrendous hack to run systemd-oomd works as before, phone works, my ugly hack to get MMS behind Wifi works as before, the fcitx keyboard works as before, the terminal works as before, installing an app from the store works as before, uWolf starts as before and the keyboard works, well I'll stop here it's a success so far, thanks to all devs for this great job !
Edit: I forgot to say that other things that were not working before on my phone still don't: fingerprint reader, disabling the developer mode still don't stay off when restarting the phone.

@DJac do you have sound?
-
@messayisto indeed : no.
I juste try : there is no sound (music, rington or youtube..) -
@peat_psuwit Of course, I could try the new update. However, Cloudflare services are blocked in Russia, and because of that, I can't even install apps from OpenStore.
Is there any hope that Ubports services will work in Russia? Maybe create a mirror?Translated using a translator.

Everything works OPN100, including VoLTE

Hello.
No issues with usage, but my impression is that the battery drains faster than with the previous version.
Generally, I can go four days without any issues, but currently, in two days, I've gone from 100% to 17%.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (as you know).
How can I objectively assess this? -
Hi
I am using the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 in dual sim mode.
For 24.04-1.2 RCFix and works:
- Switching mobile data SIM
Not working and broken:
- Reconnect to mobile data after phone call longer than 3 minutes.
- VoLTE
- Receiving SMS when mobile data is turned on and the modem is in a mode other than 2G. (If mobile data is turned off and the SIM card is switched to 2G mode, SMS receiving works normally.)

Thank both of you for reporting. I've asked the port maintainer (Alfred) to have a further look at this. As sound and voice call is a relatively important thing, if we're unable to solve this by this release we'll continue to withhold Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.2 from Xperia X in the stable channel.

How can I objectively assess this?You could try switching back to stable channel in System Settings and see if it improves the situation. That said, looking at the list of changes landing in the image, I don't see anything that could affect battery life, so it's possible this is port-specific too.

Do they happen recently with this update?
No. It's a problem on the stable channel 24.04 too. But on 20.04 everything is fine. Except VoLTE which also doesn't work on 20.04.
Interestingly, these problems do not occur when using only one SIM card. Although I have not tested this long-term, I only removed the second SIM card for about two hours.

@peat_psuwit
Not yet returned to 24.04-2.x but without any change of usage, this is a bit more meaningful.

This applies for my Miatoll device (Redmi Note 9 Pro):
- Sometimes it takes minutes (sometimes up to 10min) for the mobile to re-connect the mobile data again after a phone call. [New
after migration to 24.04] - The keyboard sometimes still crashes when typing quickly. [New
after migration to 24.04] - Ringing sound gets "almost muted" (not hearable when receiving a call) after some time (usually around a week and several received calls) [This
was always there] - Camera app basically never initiates correctly on first time use after reboot [This
was always there] - Audio apps (all of them, i.e. sound Recording app) stop working/start freezing after the first phone call (sound subsystem config is messed-up?) [This
was always there]

I am still in RC and the discharge issue has disappeared, for the moment.

@peat_psuwit
I just noticed some strange behaviour on my phone, which is still on RC, that I had never seen before.
At 11:57 a.m., my phone rang, indicating that the call was from my wife, with her personalised ringtone.
My wife's phone was sitting on the kitchen table. She did not call.
Her contact appears in the list of missed calls.
In my received text messages, I have a message saying that the number xxxxxxx called me without leaving a message. It was not my wife's number (nor was it in my contact list, for that matter).
Perhaps it was an accidental glitch...
Exphone app installed. This app has recognized my wife's contact too. -
@Vlad-Nirky Spoofing ?
