Rotation and Google Account not working on E4.5 with 16.04 fresh install.
-
When I pull down the menu for rotation, there is nothing there. Just black. So my rotation isn't locked and I'm triggering rotation in my hand when I don't actually want it. Edit: I see rotation lock is available and working in the settings. Can it be removed from the pull down menu since it doesn't work?
Adding a Google account gives a perpetual spinner after I sign in and click 'Allow' (blue button) and doesn't link to Google.
Are there workarounds for these issues?
-
@tlf the rotation switch in the drop down menu works without any trouble in my two UT devices. I don't know why it isn't working in your phone. Have you tried to reboot it?
No idea either for your Google account issues (I don't use it).
-
@tlf I think the Google issue requires you to login to your Google account and allow unsafe devices as the p-hone is seen as unsafe. If I remember, that is what worked for me.
-
@advocatux reboot worked, thank you. One less thing
-
@negations thanks. Google seems to recognize the attempt:
I can't find the option you mentioned -
@tlf Ah, actually I was thinking about signing in with Dekko for email. Seems like an authentication issue? However, I just tried on my Nexus 5 phone and it worked straight away. Not sure why it is spinning for you. I have some google accounts on my BQ phone, but they were on it when it was 15:04 and upgraded when I moved it to 16:04. If I get a chance I will try on there and see.
It works on my E4.5, though as I said, that was upgraded from a 15:04 version, so not sure if that is significant. -
@tlf I was thinking of this: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en
Enabling the "less secure apps" seemed to allow my N5 to connect to google with Dekko and it seems to work with the account as well. The phone might connect and be shown, but google is set not to allow less secure apps.
-
@negations thanks for the link! I enabled access for less secure apps, but UT still can't associate the account for some reason.
-
@tlf Maybe another boot to reset the new connection?
-
@negations https://gitlab.com/dekkan/dekko/tags/0.1.6-beta1 Try this version of Dekko 2 if your not already its the latest version and it works well as beta, any issues read through this thread https://forums.ubports.com/topic/1477/dekko2-developer-community-thread/78
-
@negations No luck, unfortunately. Maybe something else is causing the issue. But I did try a reboot and I have lowered the security of my Google account. I'll raise it again before the end of the day. Thanks for sticking with me
-
@tlf As for security there is a two factor app in the Openstore it's called Authenticator if you need it.

@tlf hi, Dan Chapman (the original author of Dekko) told in the SG:
If you don't use 2FA you have to explicitly allow "less secure apps" access https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en . And if you do use 2FA then an app specific password is required https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en . Or if oauth is used then it should "just work" but Dekko doesn't support that yet.
Hope that helps.
-
@advocatux That does help. I'm not using 2FA but I should.
-
@tlf perfect
-
I have the very same issue with Google on my Nexus5. It does not finish the setup process but when I check my Google account on my computer I can see that the devices was access granted.
-
@peterm Take it your on about using dekko 2 and google. Are you using the latest version available https://gitlab.com/dekkan/dekko/tags/0.1.6-beta1 and have you followed the advice highlighted by @advocatux from Dan Chapman
If you don't use 2FA you have to explicitly allow "less secure apps" access https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en . And if you do use 2FA then an app specific password is required https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en . Or if oauth is used then it should "just work" but Dekko doesn't support that yet.Make sure you have applied this information and try again. Any further issues please pop back.
-
@lakotaubp yes, I'm using that latest beta of Dekko 2. No 2FA and explicitly allow "less secure apps" access. Still not working though.
-
@tlf Please then try the following
Remove cache, data, config and delete with UT Tweak
Then run rm -f ~/.config/upstart/dekkod* in the device terminal
Restart device. You can run the rm command again, just to be extra sure. Reinstall dekko2 beta1. You should get set up account page. -
@lakotaubp Thank you. I've carried out these steps but I think we are talking about two different things. I can't add a Google Account in the system settings 'Accounts' section.
Maybe when I enable 2FA (soon) the Accounts will work for Google. The UbuntuOne account added fine.
Dekko 2 is okay
