When starting the camera app, the image stays black (controls are visible). The system security shows that 0 apps are allowed to use the camera, but there is no option to change this.

What can I do to get the camera working in the camera app?

      Device: PinePhone UBPorts edition.

There are some hacky ways to do it, but idk what works and what doesnt, Id recommend just waiting for an update that fixes it unless someone can make a simple script to make it work.

The camera is not yet fully functional, I didn't dig the issue number, but that is a known issue.
I think this has been working on so it can improve then regress and so on until the issue is fixed.

Did you try to uninstall it and install it again? Sometimes it might sort that kind of problem out.

On my Oneplus 3T, the app starts, camera functions are working but when taking a picture the camera freezes to then go to black screen and hang indefinately and not storing the picture.

This seems to be a known issue for the Oneplus 3\T and Pinehone as mentioned by @AppLee in the Q&A thread for next Saturday

Hopefully the hard work of the developpers will result in a fully functional default camera app for all ported and future devices. :keeps fingers crossed:

Guys, camera for newer devices is still heavily WiP and buggy. We hope to get progress soon but there are a few limitations. For the Android devices you can try https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3257/how-to-test-gstreamer-droid-based-camera-support-in-ubuntu-touch-for-halium-7-1-based-port but DONT try this on Pinephone πŸ˜‰

I'm having the same issue with a FairPhone 2. Black screen and zero permissions.

I had this issue today on MX4, first time ever (HDR activated recently, never was before).
I rebooted and got back camera working.
