@mito77 - there is no 5G support in Ubuntu Touch yet.

      Best regards,

Well the question can be detailed maybe like this: Will Ubuntu Touch support any device with 5G? Because, we don´t care for the connection speed, that´s up to the modem and it should still deliver just a network interface that provides us with internet connectivity.

So if we look at the market, 5G devices probably have Android 10 at least as base version, maybe only 11. So rephrase the question, will UT support Android 10 or 11? And the answer is: Anroid 10 could be, 11 we don´t know yet.

We are working on support for Android 9 now which is moving pretty much forward, but for 10 we only have early experiments going, and no one is working on 11 so far...

No, support for android 9, 10 or 11 is so we can provide a compatible stack with those versions of android.
UT has to use the drivers and proprietary blobs developped for android.
Halium is a joint effort to help port various Linux OSes to android devices.

I'm no expert, but it should be about right 😉

Do we really need 5G on phones for now?

@keneda Not now. But I guess 5G devices will become the standard in 1 year or so. It will bring some work when we will seriously lean on Android 10.

I believe 4G is good enough for a long time still.
My home network has far less speed (14Mb) and i do all i want, including online gaming.
Don't play their game, make 4G the standard lol.

@keneda 5G is a mistake imo. But that's another debate.
