      :grinning_face_with_sweat: Nevermind...

I've never setup an APN before so I didn't know what I was doing.

I looked up the settings on Mint Mobile's website again and I found the settings for internet and mms separately, instead of setting them together.

In case anyone else wants to use Ubuntu Touch with Mint Mobile, here's what you need for the APN settings:

For the Internet, I put in the following:

      Used for: Internet
      Name: Ultra
      APN: Wholesale
The username and password I left blank.

For the MMS, I put in the following:

      Used for: MMS
      Name: Ultra MMS
      APN: Wholesale
      MMSC: http://wholesale.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
      Proxy Port: 8080
I left the Proxy, username, and password fields blank.

I checked the boxes to enable them both and then I restarted the phone. After it booted up it worked and showed an L by the carrier signal and I was able to access the internet on my phone!

So for those of you who are considering switching to Mint Mobile and wondering if it will work, yes it does work on Ubuntu Touch and on a Nexus 5 (despite what the Mint Mobile website says, it just doesn't have the HD voice feature).

Mint Mobile has an Android and Apple app that are of course not available for Ubuntu Touch, I don't know if the phone can be setup without the app or not. I used my Android phone to get the app and activate the SIM card as that's what the instructions had said to do.

      In any case.. problem solved!

Hi, I struggled recently with APN as well. Quick question: Are you able to add a 3rd APN - eg: TYPE=LTE or something else? Different carrier for me (Bell canada) ... and my mobile data is working but unstable ("L" comes on and off, ofono errors in syslog). I wanted to try a few different setups but I can only edit the 2 that were created ... adding a 3rd doesn't save. I am trying to figure out if it is the carrier or the UT preventing the change. Thanks!

@lakotaubp I just discovered the MMS isn't working. My sister tried to send me a photo via MMS and it failed. I tried to send her one and it failed too, so something isn't right 😞

I suspect I probably do need the additional settings for it to work.

The internet settings seem to be working ok though.

@standupmobile When I put the sim card in, it added the LTE automatically. I have noticed that the type of connection it has frequently changes.. it will show L then change to E, then to 3G, etc. I'm not sure what the E means, but I found the internet doesn't work when it is like that.

I'm assuming that the issue is the towers. When I used my AT&T sim in it, it worked fine without doing that, but I wasn't paying as much attention to it.

I'm not sure how to see any logs for that kind of thing to know what causes it to change modes so often, but I'm guessing it would be the towers.

                Yes it's probably the tower.
E is for 2.5G or something like that, your internet connection probably works but is too slow for it to be useful.
Switching to lower speed connection is always a bad sign, it means that your signal from the tower is weak, hence bad connection, packet loss...

This can explain the MMS loss.
See for the workaround in progress:

@applee That makes sense and thank you for explaining what E is lol.

I think you may be right about the tower issue. It seems to have a poor connection to the tower while inside my apartment. It changes frequently...

While it said L, I tried sending a picture by MMS and it immediately failed. In the text message conversation it shows the image with "Failed!" next to it. Even with a good connection, I suspect it has a connection to the tower but it can't send due to the settings.

Mint Mobile supports WiFi texting and calling but I don't see any way to get it to work on Ubuntu Touch. Is there a setting somewhere or a way to set it up manually?

Ubuntu Touch does not support VoLTE.
And if with a good connection MMS fail too then it's probably the APN or linked to the fact that old technology is discontinued...

Sorry I'm in Europe, so I don't know the specific about Mint or other providers.

@applee Oh, that makes sense. I appreciate your help trying to figure it out.

The Nexus 5 is supposed to have the capability to support WiFi calls and texts, but if UT doesn't support it and MMS won't work, and the signal keeps dropping and is poor quality, I guess I'm stuck. I tried making a call today and the quality was awful and it kept dropping due to the signal.

I could possibly make it still work if I had a good app that could do voice and video calls, but none of the apps currently have that capability yet.

Thankfully Mint Mobile has a 7 day return policy so I can cancel it and get my money back.

I guess I'm stuck with AT&T for now which really sucks.. AT&T sent me a notification saying they are going to be changing something and they won't support older phones (even my Android phone) next year, and none of the phones I have are on their list of acceptable devices.

Anyways, thank you @AppLee and everyone who replied 👍

@lisali I got MMS to work with mint mobile. You should try another 7 day trail and test the settings i used.

@lisali This seams more of an issue with celular bands, not the os running on your phone. Even if they dont support it, it still might work given your on the correct bands
