Redmi Note 7 / State of play
-
@nico38 Maybe a hardware issue (?)
-
@nico38 If you go to security and privacy .....on settings...it says Location?
-
@Josele13
Yes Location activated -

@stanwood
I installed lineageos 17.1 with open_Gapps pico (minimum).
The phone is quite reactive.
=>GPS OK on Sygic offline navigation app.
So I'm not sure I can find the energy for, once again, install UT.
I managed to swipe the system partition (!) and was unable to flash a stock rom. Too many "how to" on internet made me confused.
My phone is still alive, fortunately, and I think it's safer to keep it as it is now, with this light Android os.
Another time, I hope.
Thanks a lot for your help guys.
Long live to Ubunbtu Touch. -
@nico38 I'm glad your phone is working, come back to Ut any time.
Regards... -
I installed UT on lavender via the installer. But a caller from Android hears an echo. Switched from stable to devel channel. UT was updated (version of yesterday), and also updated all apps. But still the same, echo for Android caller. I thought the echo problem was fixed. Can someone please confirm that there should be no echo. Should I reinstall UT? Or how can I fix this caller issue?
-
@wurst Well, I have no echo anymore since OTA-17.
But you can try this:setprop persist.audio.fluence.voicecall false
Not sure if you have to make this after each boot (best is to try)
-
@stanwood thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this didn't help. I will try a clean install. How can I see on which OTA I am?
-
Hi @wurst
You can see the current version in the
"system settings" > About
-
thanks @AppLee for your reply.
I tried both the devel channel, and the stable. Even reinstalled (without wiping the personal data) to OTA-18. Without success, the non-lavender caller has an echo.btw, @stanwood, what do you mean, that you have "no echo anymore since OTA-17"? Did you also have an echo on the lavender?
-
@wurst I had some echo on OTA-16, but fix was released in OTA-17. So I confirm I have no more echo since then.
-
@stanwood may I bother you again:-) Did also the lavender caller hear an echo? Or both the lavender and non-lavender caller?
In my case (OTA-18) the lavender caller has no echo, the non-lavender caller hears himself. Also the mute microphone does not work on the lavender. Should I reinstall again, also with wiping the personal data? Or flash TWRP, make a factory reset including formating the data, and then perform the ubports installer again? How can I safe and restore the personal data (including the apps, their settings and storage data) on UT? -
@wurst Well I don't remind if recipients did hear an echo and I have no way to reproduce this now.
Maybe a more technical person would better help you.

@nico38 @Josele13 @stanwood
Hi, same issue than nico38, no GPS after a data wipe and fresh install. I have activated GPS (position=on), restarted the RN7 to "force" according to Josele13, but test_gps always returns error "gps interface not found :("
Restarted several times, waited long minutes, but gps always fails.
Maybe did I buy the RN7 that was owned by nico38 ? -
@franzm Weird indeed. Was the device purchased with a Chinese global rom?
Did you well first installed UT with the vendor.img in lineage-16.0-20200226-lavender-vendor.zip ? (Which is required by the installer).
Indeed this file contains the appropriate firmwares for the Redmi Note 7 under Ubuntu Touch. -
@stanwood Global ROM yes, but not Chinese global...? or does "global" ROM means also Chinese? The ROM had ref. V12.5.1.0.QFGMIXM, available here: https://xiaomifirmware.com/roms/miui-roms-for-xiaomi-redmi-note-7-lavender/
In this page, I think Chinese roms are in a separate section.I just flashed the 'vendor' partition with vendor.img contained in lineage-16.0-20200226-lavender-vendor.zip (installer v0.8.8 does not ask for the vendor.img file, whereas v0.9.1 does). Test_gps still says "interface not found".
Original MIUI ref was : MIUI Global 12.0.3 stable
Do you think I should revert back to the original rom, and restart UBports install? I could now do that eyes shut...
-
@franzm Well it looks like a truncated instruction set is preventing your device from communicating with the GPS module. Maybe due to the original firmware, I'm not sure.
In any case the GPS is perfectly functional with the Redmi Note 7, I use it every day.
So, yes, I can recommend you to try to reinstall the original official rom (Android 9, NOT 10), then reinstall UT using the right vendor.img (see above).
I had solved a similar problem on my Nexus 5 some time ago (the screen was out of alignment). I reinstalled a newer, official stock rom, then reinstalled UT. The problem had disappeared.
If not, see if people on XDA could help you?
-
@stanwood Thank you for the advice.
What is exactly the original official rom?
My RN7 came with Android 10, but since I bought it by a well-known used phones seller, they may have upgraded the rom when resetting the phone.
Ok, I will try restarting the whole process, with a previous global rom with Android 9, switching from firmware v12.5.1.0 to older v11.0.1.0.
Let's go! -
@franzm Ok. I can't help you further on those technical issues, but wish you good luck, hoping to hear good news from you soon
