Change DNS settings on UT Devices

Hello,

Is it possible on Ubuntu Touch devices to change your DNS settings on your device's WiFi connection. I know how to do this on iOS and LineageOS (Android) but I don't know how to find a way to do this on UT. Thanks.

Yes, you can do it, but it is a bit hidden in UT, you'll need to use the terminal and it only works for wifi connections not cellular. You can check this thread:

Thank you for the response. I haven't tested this out yet but just to be clear, are these the commands you are referring to in the terminal we need to copy with the DNS of our choice? I have including a screenshot below:

I am on other social network trying to help someone who wants to block ads on their browser and I know a DNS that does just that. I am going to save a custom DNS to easily copy and paste to block ads. This is for NextDNS using IPv4:

nmcli c modify 628f4269-3a24-7858-e4b0-3765d485ecda ipv4.dns "45.90.28.243, 45.90.30.243"
nmcli c modify 628f4269-3a24-7858-e4b0-3765d485ecda ipv4.ignore-auto-dns yes

After I use root and paste the command above, i get this result:

Error: Unknown connection '628f4269-3a24-7858-e4b0-3765d485ecda'.

Any idea what is going on? I am connected to WiFi.

@metalmyles The id 628f4269-3a24-7858-e4b0-3765d485ecda should be replaced with the id of the network that you want to change the settings to. You can use the command nmcli c to list all networks with their ids. When you found the id, you can run the two commands to change the dns for that network. If you want to have adblocking, I think the suggested way to do that on UT would using the UAdblock app from the Openstore. This will block ads also on mobile connections.

Just so you know.
uAdBlock uses blacklists to filter out the undesired IP addresses.

If you have trouble (ads still displaying), try to check that uAdBlock is still active and that you have selected blacklists. If none is used then it won't work.
And be careful in selecting those lists, some of them will totally block out social medias so you'll have to try them out to figure what is the best combo for your needs.

I let my peer know about uAdBlock to them personally and here is what they said below:

"I have UAdblock installed but it does not seem to stop the adverts.

"My main concern is that my phone is listening in on me. Not something that I thought was possible with linux and duck duck go, but I will try your suggestions."

Any other suggestions? I was trying to give them another way to block ads via NextDNS but I don't have a better answer other than get a faraday bag to put your phone away when not in use. As far as I know UT is not sending information to google, or a big tech corp.
