        Hello there

I can no longer add a google account because it says the browser isn't safe.
I tried from the calendar, and also from the options.
        What should i do?

@rebecca58 Have you tried this https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5035/cant-sync-google-account/2?_=1631214791932 Also make sur you have allowed insecure apps in your Google security settings.

            Hi rebecca58.

This workaround worked for most of people who could not add their Google account & sync it with contacts and calendar:

WARNING: Go first to your Google account, security settings "and allow less secure applications".

            From Ubuntu Touch :

            1. Download the .deb file: https://github.com/rubencarneiro/account-plugins/releases

            2. Open the terminal and type in this right order each command following by "Enter"

            3. cd Downloads

            4. sudo -s

            5. sudo mount -o remount,rw /

            6. sudo dpkg -i account-plugin-google_0.15.0ubports1local.1586944513_all.deb

            7. cd

            8. exit

            9. In ubuntu Touch settings => online accounts => select Google

            10. Enter your email address

            11. Enter your password

            12. Check: "Allow all actions"

            13. Your are connected to the Google account. Wait a min for your calendar & contacts to be sync to your device

            14. Restart the device

            That's it!

@stanwood also replying to say "thank you!" I have heard for some time there was a possible fix for Google Calendar integration but hadn't sorted out where the fix was to try. I followed your steps and my Google Calendar has sync'd! My work and wife will be happy I won't be missing appointments anymore 🙂

                  hi,
this has been receltly fixed in the devel channel.
if you select devel in your system update settings and do an update, you will be able to use google account both for calendar and contacts.

                  regards

                    Honest question :

If you depend on Google that much then why not simply use a Android phone ?!

And if you are a Ubuntu Touch user who doesn't want to go back to Android :
Why not host such services for yourself with one of the many options out there ?!

                    My phones :

                    • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
                    • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
                    • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

                    P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)

@nero355 I don't think UBports is meant to judge which use or ecosystem is chosen by its users. (please don't see any offense as it's simply my personal opinion)

I assume that the spirit of Ubuntu is to give its users the free choice to use third party proprietary software or not.

Personally I don't have the choice of using a Google business account due to my employer and am happy to sync work items with my Ubuntu Touch device.

I am not judging : I am asking what the thought behind it is! 😉

For me using Ubuntu Touch is also about deGoogling so I always wonder why someone would still stick with Google on a Ubuntu Touch phone 🙂

                          Better UX maybe.
I left Android for the poor UX and I'm always disappointed by Google's product.

The privacy issues with Google is an important part, but for my usage I managed with changing account on each android phone and not syncing anything...

My main reason is the UX
