@ubportsnews On the new devices page https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ (which is very nice by the way!) the Nexus 5 and One Plus One are still labeled as Promoted. In the last Q&A, they were mentioned as devices which may be left behind when the move to 20.04 is made. Is it still wise to encourage newcomers to buy these devices? And which future-proof devices are the most mature and daily driver ready? Pinephone is still in early development from what I understand, and not for sale atm anyway.

@rondarius Ah, thanks for pointing this out! I was under the impression it was sold out altogether. Thanks for correcting me! Nevertheless, it still says 'beta' and 'for early adopters', so still unsuitable as daily driver for regular users.

Can you please get a summary of the progress of Waydroid and the problems that remain to be solved in order to get a system that is at least testable (a time order to get that ?) on a large scale (user friendly) and not just for 'specialists'. Thank you.

@domubpkm You should get full details from this group https://t.me/anbox_halium which is their Telegram group. As stated by @Keneda UBports have no direct involvement in the development of Waydroid. Though we are very keen as many are to see it succeed.

Hi, in the news this week, canonical extend its LTS support up to 10 years for security updates.
I suppose it also applies to our beloved mobile OS.
Can you comment on that, does it change the long term plans for 20.04 that should end its life in 2030 ?

I suppose work to support 20.04 will not be impacted and still the priority to get better compatibility with our friends from KDE.

Oh Hello there, it'sa me again with more topics, than questions:

Is the Pixel 3a the new Nexus 5?

IF . . . Some app developer had reversed engeniered, let's say whatsapp. APP developer has everything to just compile the clicks for the open-store, and ask you what should be added or removed to the app, what would you suggest?

Android 12 knocks, knocks, knocks at the SDK door. Isn't a good chance to take a look at it, so you as a team can have some advantage when the new devices kick in the market? Is this a budget related question?

Raspberry PI has already arm software (and it might be a lot of it). Isn't a good idea to see what you can use from them to add it to Ubuntu Touch?

@applee I hope you might be aware that Ubuntu Touch, Canonical has nothing to do with the current Ubuntu Touch. . They just borrowed the name for marketing reasons among linux enthusiasts.

I believe that is not a bad strategy, but (question for you) if Cannonical decides to take back the name, and Maybe for legal reasons, UT has to be renamed to YumiOS, MirOS or something different. Does the proyect would still be appealing to you?

Do you have ever made considerations about "What If [put a main developer name here] Gets Hit By A Bus?

What will happen if Marius or Daldon o Florian ecc Gets Hit By A Bus (or, more probably, lost interest in the project)?
Would the project go on or will it die?

Now we have a foundation but can the project still be defined as an amateur project carried out by a few or an organization capable of surviving the abandonment of 4-5 main developers?

Ps: I wish the developers every luck and certainly not to be hit by a bus ... I used this case only because it is the subject of study for linus torward

@moem Oh yes! I have seen in youtube reviews, posts, comments and more how popular the pixel 3a is getting. The Nexus 5 is kind of old to keep supporting it, but seems to be very popular still for being a cheap phone.
Both phones in a way where supported by Google itself. Now, there are a lot of new devices comning out everyday. Keep giving support to such and old phone, might be difficult. A natural transition, and since it is becoming very popular might be the changee in promoted phones. Chaging the nexus 5 for the pixel 3a should be the most natural trasition in my opinion. I understand that the magic of these linuxy systems is to increase it's support for many years to prevent obsolence; however, let's face it. There are even as chep as nexud 5 phones with more recent versions of android. Nexus, one plus one and fairphones are old phones tha are no longer in production. New people comming to Ubuntu touch will find it difficult to find promoted phones in the future since it wil be no more of those specific 3 phones. In my experience, it has been very hard to check purchase options for those 3 promoted phones. People use to have more Xiaomi phones since are cheap.

                                  Hi everyone,

I’m aware that a multiboot (i.e. having two mobileOS installed) is possible, depending on a modified recovery (aka TWRP), and by using both A/B partitions sets on compatible devices.

                                  So, my questions are :

1- Does UT use both A/B partitions when doing an OTA-update ? (for the devices having A/B partitions of course), or does OTA-update use only one set of partitions anyway ? (cf. legacy devices)

I saw on a multiboot-tutorial that a specific build of UT was needed for multiboot, and that OTA updates then becomes unavailable. Which leads me to my last question :

2- What are the needed features and their tradeoffs for UT to be multiboot-compatible by default ? (i.e. to have the same UT as everyone, with OTA-updates, on a multiboot device)

Is there any cooperation (other that working on the same upstream stuff) doing on with https://droidian.org/ ? Maybe it would be a good idea to get it to work with the Ubports installer?

                                    Fairphone 5 (waiting for port)
