Does bootloader have to be unlocked to install UT?
-
I am asking because it seems my device is not getting flashed and the installer gets stuck with my OP6 stuck on the fastboot screen.
Previous help has suggested that I need to wait longer, but I have let the installer run for 120 minutes and there was absolutely no progress to be seen and the device booted to Oxygen OS 9 without any changes or problems afterwards.

Yes, you need to unlock your bootloader.

@digital_wookiee
Ubports installer normally tells you that it needs unlock prior installing. -
@opaijavai @Keneda I now see I wasted a day waiting for my phone to magically do something. Thank you for confirming it.
Would you or anyone else happen to have a good resource on doing that for me? -
@digital_wookiee
All i can tell you is that your phone has to be flashed with the apropriate android image before instaling Ubuntu Touch on it.I don't have your phone so can't tell what android it is.

@digital_wookiee You need developer mode, android bebugging, mtp on in your OP6/6t and the unlocked bootloader. If the above doesn't do it or the installer ask to do it then reboot to bootloader and run- fastboot oem unlock - in a terminal. Then follow the instructions on the installer. You need android 9 or the OP version of that.

@lakotaubp I did what you said and have all the specified requirements. I got past the initial problem, but now I seem to be stuck at the Preparing system image section.

@digital_wookiee You now have two threads open that are going in the same direction. I would mark this as solved https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6311/how-to-ask-a-question-and-then-mark-it-as-solved (you know the bootloader needs to be unlocked) and carry on in your other thread. I will then lock this thread and direct people there https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6751/stuck-in-cleaning-up-or-does-that-just-take-a-long-while if that is Ok with you.

@lakotaubp Sure thing
