@earens Then you already have Ubuntu Touch installed, you just need to update it.

Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

Hello moem, I know and understand that. When the update is checked, the Meizu reports that the software is up-to-date. I bought the Meizu with original Ubuntu. I think, the system is therefore apparently still looking for updates on the Canonical servers and not at UBPorts. Is it possible to set the update server, similar to the Raspbian package sources?

              Nope! ๐Ÿ™‚

But all you have to do now if use the Ubuntu Touch Installer made by UBports to install the new generation of Ubuntu Touch ๐Ÿ˜‰

              My phones :

              • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
              • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
              • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

Hallo, i have read https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/arale/ . And there is written:

                1. Unlock the bootloader, please search the internet for instructions
                2. Install the required Android/stock rom version ยน
                  ...

And so i asked and start this contribution.

Maybe it makes a difference whether the Meizu 4 is used as an Android or an Ubuntu phone. Both versions were sold. I will test the installer.

Oh, now it's all becoming clear! Sorry, I can't help you with that, but since you have now explained the situation... someone will surely be able to.

                  Here's what I would try:
on the Update page, click the cog wheel to get to the settings. Pick a different release channel if there are any available. I would choose RC, it's the safest apart from Stable.

You don't need to unlock bootloader, nor to install any android rom.
Those instructions are for non Ubuntu Touch MX4 versions.

Your bootloader is unlocked already, and you have the best basis OS to update to UBPorts Ubuntu Touch.

You just need to run the UBports installer.

I was in the same place as you are now with my MX4, and used the installer to update.

Now it can be tricky to succeed, depending on the PC OS you have, and the installer version you use.

Anyway if you struggle somewhere there, we are here to help you.

There is no way to update directly from the last Canonical Ubuntu Touch, to any OTA channel from UBports.
The only channel on Canonical UT MX4, is Canonical channel, and it's dead.

@keneda Hello and thanks for the information. Unfortunately, the installation via the UBports installer does not work. The phone is recognized, you can select the version and whether you want to delete personal data (wipe), then the installer tool starts the smartphone in fastboot mode and reports that the Ubuntu Touch is being transferred or installed. During this time, the phone remains black, around the lower edge you can see a command line with the words Fastboot ... After about 30-40 seconds, however, the phone starts with the original Ubuntu version 15.

By the way, the original Ubuntu shows an update Version 17, but it is not possible to install the update. 1641469457940.jpg

@earens Please check https://forums.ubports.com/topic/7171/mx4-installation-failed/7 or https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6452/failed-installation-to-mx4 I can remember the cable connection to the mx was very iffy so when youn get it make sure it does not move. Also when the fastboot part has finished the phone should go into recovery mode to finish the install. You might need to do that yourself. Also maybe check first by putting the phone in Recovery and seeing if adb can detect the device correctly.

@stanwood Version 17 is not the latest UBports OTA afaik. I would more likely expect this: https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/685#issuecomment-405009617

Anyway, @earens said he is running the old legacy image from Canonical: "Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-15) from 2017127" so I would suggest him to try to install the image again with the UBports installer and perhaps a different USB cable.

Or if that doesn't work (I know that at some point it didn't work, though that is likely fixed now) I would suggest using this old approach mentioned here, that is:

                                sudo ubuntu-device-flash --server=http://system-image.ubports.com touch --device=arale --channel=16.04/stable --recovery-image=recovery-arale.img

(find the recovery.img linked here, just save it and make the command point to it properly, or save it to the same directory you are running the command from)

Providing you can install this old flash tool: http://repo.ubports.com/pool/bionic/main/g/goget-ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-device-flash_0.35+ubports+0~20181221200828.5~1.gbpd7daaa_amd64.deb

might need some additional package on current Ubuntu, not sure, but if you are going to head this way and you bump into errors feel free to share them here and we can try to help with that.

Some info that could help us :
Wich OS on your PC ?
What ubports installer version you use ?
What kind of USB ports you use (2.0 highly recommanded) ?
Is your USB cable a good data enabled one (best would be the one sold with MX4 if still in good shape).
