Create subforum for f(x)tec Pro¹ and Pro¹-X
-
@lakotaubp
The Pro 1 is already available but I don't know about maintenance ; where should a user open a ticket regarding a porting issue?
The Pro 1 X is planned to be delivered end of February so we don't really know anything about the port itself and what works or not. (I hope mine won't take too long to get there because I have to live with android atm and I don't like that).I guess we have few possibilities here and it would be nice to make them clear for everyone.
A device specific subforum is intented for:- Reporting issues?
- Seeking help from the community? (others with the same device)
- Asking the community what is there experience with this device?
- Free talks about the device and Ubuntu Touch?
Personally I'd rule out the first one but the other ones are fine to me.
Also the list is not closed but should be kept somehow short enough. -
@applee So only the one supported so far though both are on the installer. So both have ports?
-
Florian will set one up for the Pro 1 and checking on the status of the X.
Edit:Not sure but was something mentioned a few Q&As back about the X port and lack of info on their part?

@lakotaubp
My latest memory of F(x) Tech during a Q&A was when I asked about the relationship with them at the time.
https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-news-1/post/ubuntu-touch-q-a-96-3746The answer was clear that a licensing agreement was in progress for the Pro1 X.
But the foundation could not contribute much to the development.
Maybe it's time for an update on this question on January the 29th
I'll also ask F(x)Tech directly. -
@applee It's important to note though that Pro1 and Pro1-X are basically different devices now since they changed the SOC. So not sure if they should be in one category or not.
-
@kugiigi That is what we are trying to check The f(x) tec subforum with the Pro 1 is not the issue that is on the installer and should be fine. For whatever reason though the state of the X and any changes are not clear for now. More info needed first.

@kugiigi the pro1x is closer to the Poco M3 with soc 662 than the original Pro1, given that and given that Fxtec used the Poco M3 as a reference device... I'd say the pro1x should have its own page. Most likely it will be at a smilar point with the Poco M3. Also Fxtec has engaged a Linux developer, Dario or Angelo? Specifically for UT
PS. I'm also waiting for the Pro1x but I cant develop, only web stuff....

@lakotaubp thanks! The x can definitely wait, it's supposed to be out in a couple weeks but that's been the case for around a year now. They've been doing monthly indiegogo updates and the last one was at the end of December so I imagine one will be up soon that may provide some answers.
My Pro 1 is out for delivery and I've got the installer downloaded and ready to go. I plan on installing right away, and will get to testing all the features and getting the status updated. Hopefully that progress bar is accurate.

I've had a couple hours to play around with it and the maturity seems accurate. Most features work, currently just having issues with GPS, flashlight, and data/mms, but I think data/mms is an issue with my APN settings as the SIM in slot 1 is recognized and I can do calls and sms without issue (haven't tried slot 2).
There's a couple really annoying issues though. First, the keyboard backlight doesn't work. The LED for capslock works fine, but only a couple keys by it are lit if it's on and everything else is off. Second, the on screen keyboard doesn't disable if the phone is open to expose the hardware keyboard, and it blocks almost all of the screen if you're in landscape. I'm having to manually enable/disable the on screen keyboard when I don't want to use the physical keyboard. If there's a sensor that can act as a trigger to toggle both of these I think it'd be a really solid device.
I'm going to work on getting the device page updated either tonight or later this week.

@Lakotaubp
I got a Pro¹-X yesterday and can report that installing UT using the UBports installer went very well, very smoothly. The build seems excellent, better than on the OnePlus 6T, which has a few glitches. Only glitch I've discovered so far is that flashlight doesn't turn on from the Battery icon switch. A sub-forum for this device would be helpful. Shipping was delayed for a long time but the company has a push to fulfil orders lately.
