I was messing around with Waydroid today with a spare two minutes and accidentally hosed UT. My fault being too impatient waiting for some thing to install so I stopped the process and rebooted the phone πŸ™„ (yes idiot). Phone then sits on the powered by Android screen and no movement any further. Reinstalled from the installer as I couldn't get into recovery and my phone is back as is without having to reinstall apps or anything else. Took less than 10 minutes.
My point is if you are a newbie to this and something goes wrong, all is not lost.
Although, Waydroid is gone - no loss to me as I used it for interest only. The Waydroid helper is really good.

I would not expect to brick my phone by doing that to be honest ?!

Can anyone explain this ?! πŸ˜•

          My phones :

          • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
          • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
          • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

          P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)

@nero355 well normally not, I agree. But Waydroid is not released as stable, so everyone is on their own πŸ˜›

@flohack If Wydroid is not stable what is it doing in the Open Store? I tried to install it last week and bricked my Volla Phone X. Thanks to help from the community it is now back up and running but I lost all my data in the process.

@ian You have to remember all this stuff is experimental, a lot works, some doesn't. Due to it being a community led operating system and app store, you won't have the stringent checks that Apple and Google do with their software. Comes down to time and money like most things in the end. Like all software, their is a disclaimer to install. Waydroid worked for me until my impatience hosed it, but my preference is not to run Android apps on UT, others may vary. I have an Android phone for some things I have to have it for, likewise I have an Apple phone to run one iOS app, which won't run on anything else - it was cheaper time wise to buy a phone (really cheap refurb) and use it as a phablet.
It may be an idea to have an "experimental" section on the app store though...:backhand_index_pointing_right:

This is a bit confusing but the app in the OpenStore is WayDroid Helper https://open-store.io/app/waydroidhelper.aaronhafer not WayDroid and I must admit it works very well at what it does. WayDroid itself is completely different and is still Beta (very?). I have used both methods to install and the helper is much quicker and easier, though you do need to follow the WayDroid docs for the best way to install the other app stores ( or at least I did).
The other bit of info I missed first time but remembered from installing Libertine was to go to System Settings, Battery and set lock when idle to never while you install WayDroid. Please remember WayDroid is still a work in progress and not the finished article. Expect issues if you get none great if you do then it is not unexpected.

That does not apply to everything related to Ubuntu Touch at the moment! πŸ˜‰

                      Hehehe! You are funny! :grinning_squinting_face:

You should do some reading about all the crap in the App and Play Stores or the one Huawei uses! πŸ˜‰

A warning in the description may be the quickest and best way. Since few, if any, applications will break the system. There is already a warning during installation anyway, but it may not be enough in this case.

@ian I will make sure that the Waydroid Helper app refuses to install Waydroid on an unsupported device, I thought thats already the case, but let me talk with the guys.

After all we are an open community, so if anyone contributes an App to the OpenStore its simply not poossible to review every aspect of it.

@flohack Thanks for doing that, appreciated. The only reason I decided to give it a try was a review that said it worked really well on the Volla Phone X.

                                @flohack Hey, im the dev.

We currently have a big disclaimer in the app that explains the risk and lists theoretically supported and tested devices. You have to click a red button saying "I understand the risk" to even start the installer.

I plan to implement device verification but havent found time yet. I will add another warning to the openstore description asap.

Like ubports installer let you install on any device, even not supported, "at your own risk", there shouldn't be a limitation here one your app, if warnings are clear enough and misclick not possible, only user should be responsible of what he does on his device.
