Some update, we have looked into the ESM repos now, and unfortunately Canonical does not offer them for ARM architecture, which is really sad. So, even though we have a free license for post-LTS updates we cannot use them

@flohack That is very unfortunate. And I will leave it at that, since I am sure who ever offered the project ESM meant well.

The jump to 20.04 is therefore inevitable. And as much as it is done as quickly as possible as soon as the conditions are met.

@domubpkm Well sadly my understanding is that security updates for 20.04 are not more likely to happen from canonical as they are for 16.04 - if they don't package for arm not much can be done... On another hand we do get updates from debian don't we ? Or are we just contributing ? Because they have to be maintaining an arm branch for mobian I guess

I don't know about 20.04 because 20.04 still has security updates for more than two years but time flies. For now I will conclude only for 16.04 regarding ESM and branch arm. But I had the same thought as you.. And if there was no ESM at all for the arm branch, it would force to stick closer to UT in time to LTS updates....

@emphrath Canonical provides updates for ARM packages for the versions that are in active, non ESM, support. Today those are 18.04 (till april 2023) 20.04 (till april 2025), 22.04 (till april 2027) and 22.10 (till June 2023).
Only ESM support does not include ARM packages, so it turns out.

@alan_g Clearly there is ESM support for ARM packages regarding ubuntu 20.04 LTS? If so, that's good news that will put a little less pressure on UT's formidable team of developers.

@emphrath we cannot take packages from Debian instead of Ubuntu. Thats not how distro packaging works
