Cannot 'forget' Bluetooth Device
-
I was attempting to pair a Bluetooth device and and it failed to connect. I now have an entry in Bluetooth devices for the failed to pair device, but the forget device button is greyed out.
Other entries have the button that is not greyed out so it is only related to this device. It has a connect button but it fails to connect.
I want to remove it so I can repair it, which I have had it paired before, so I know it works.
Can I go to terminal and find these devices and remove that entry?
I am on RC V53 OnePlus 6T

Well, I found the device list by using terminal and SSH, going to
"bluetoothctl devices"
My question is where is that file and can I edit it to remove the none functioning device and it's MAC address?
-
@mw4jet In the terminal, type:
bluetoothctl
You should see a list of paired devices (and maybe some new ones too). Locate the one you want to remove, copy the MAC address (the second column), and then type:
remove 00:00:00:00:00:00
(replace 0 with your MAC address).
Your bluetooth device should not appear in the list anymore.

@mw4jet Thank you, I will let you know how it goes.

Its a long lasting bug that was already there on the initial Canonical devices. Reason unknown I guess ^^ probably an inheerent problem of the Bluez daemon
-
@flohack I did not use BT much because the pause/play buttons on my headset did not work, but now they work, but as for the bug, I will try what stanwood above posted. My desire to have a working UT device that I can at least do something like that in terminal is one reason it's attractive.
I wish I could help in its development but I am not a coder in any sense of the word! LoL

@mw4jet Sorry to say but those changes for buttons might be reverted since we faced a ton of regressions lately with upgrade to Bluetooth...

Well, that will be bad.

Well, that will be bad.
Well, that is simply how software development works. Things get developed and tested, and sometimes decisions need to be made that if some things bring improvement to a certain use case, but breaks other existing use cases.

I get it, but the button control of BT was a big plus that finally showed up. Oh well.

I am not very informed on the workings of a cell phone and what it takes to make one work correctly, but I had a Samsung SG6 something or other with Windows phone 7 at least 10 years ago that the bluetooth headset had pause/play or answer/end, and volume up/down and a voice assistant that flawlessly announced text messages and I could reply by voice alone.
UT cannot run bluetooth with a pause/play function? I know I am oversimplifying it but it seems as though that was figured out a long time ago. I am disappointed is all. Handsfree bluetooth is a deal breaker for me. I need it to function in order to carry the device. Well I had it for a short time anyway.
Any idea if and when it's might return?

No.
Maybe in next OTA ?
If it's debbuged by then. -

I wouldn't expect it to land in 16.04 anymore. 20.04 is around the corner, and it already contains a much newer Bluetooth stack. The one from 22.04 even, if I am not misremembering.
