20.04 Volla Phone
-
Today I've updated my Volla to 20.04 stable OTA-1 via installer with the "wipe"-Option. Now, with a clean install some more issues (like inconsistencies in languages) are gone. The Volla runs quiet well and I want to say a big "Thank You" to all the people who worked on the task to bring 20.04 to our phones!
-
@kristatos I'll wait hotspot working, probably (i hope), OTA-2. Is secure wifi working currently on Volla ?
-
@domubpkm The bug-report for the hotspot-issue is at the moment within the OTA-2 development. I hope for you, that it'll be fixed with OTA-2, so that you can also switch to 20.04.
What do you mean with "secure wifi"? If you mean connecting to a WPA2-protected WLAN, then yes, this is working. -

It is. Ok thanks.
yes, the hotspot is essential for me.Do you have working MMS ?
-
@domubpkm I've never used MMS and on my main SIM I don't have any datapass which is necessary for sending MMS.
-
@kristatos Have you tried viewing videos in the Morph browser/.
-
@DaveAlbiston No, it's not working. But there is already a bug report for this.
-
@kristatos That's good they are on the case. It may be a Volla specific problem.
-
In my Volla Phone under Focal, notifications (for instance by Telegram) are not producing a sound, only a vibration. I checked all possible configurations and they seem fine.
-
This week, I fresh installed 20.04 Focal Fossa (devel) on my Volla. It seems practically everything is working.
I checked the device page on ubports.com beforehand to know what to expect.
I did notice that the phone (compared to 16.04) seems to have a little more trouble finding mobile data connection. Eventually it does.
Is this something you recognize? If so, does one of you know if this is Volla specific or if this has been reported yet?
[Edit: Seems to be fine now.] -

I am trying to install version 20.04 on my Volla X right now with the installer (0.9.10-beta). I checked the "wipe" option to have a clean installation and the installer keeps showing "flashing firmware partitions using fastboot" for several hours.
Is it normal?
Thank you. -

I haven't installed 20.04 on my Volla yet. However, this is never normal when an installation hangs for several hours. An installation lasts 30 minutes max (it all depends on the internet connection)
-
@naizena When flashing my Volla with the installer it sometimes was so that the installer didn't restart my phone to fastboot-mode. It also said "flashing firmware partitions using fastboot" but I think it was still waiting for the phone to enter fastboot-mode.
When I restart my phone and select fastboot manually then the installer instantly started flashing. The whole process of flashing my device (with downloading files) takes around 5 minutes.
You can enter fastboot-mode by press and hold the power-button and volume-lower-button. Then there comes a little menu-selection where you can choose fastboot -
@kristatos @domubpkm Thanks a lot!!
In the end I succeeded (I don´t know how, I would be unable to repeat it...) and I have a fresh install of focal 20.04 in my Volla X. -
@kristatos I installed 20.04 OTA-1 yesterday using the stable installer 0.9.7-beta on my Volla Phone X. I managed in the end, but it was a frustrating experience. Like you I had to manually put my phone into fastboot mode to get it to begin installing the software. However it then hung 'waiting for device'. I eventually found out that I needed to put the phone into 'recovery' so that the process could complete. After that it installed OK.
I found that if I used the power button and volume down to get to the fastboot mode it gave me grief. The menu it summons up uses vol up to select the option and vol down to OK the selection. If you don't let go of vol down and power at the same time you can end up oking the default option. I found that selecting fastboot from the initial menu did not work for me. I had to select the option for boot into recovery and then use the advanced option to select fastboot. I found that power and vol up worked better for me than power and vol down to get to the menu in the first place.

Do you experience this bug under focal ?
-
@domubpkm I don't remember seeing it unfer Xenial (where it was raised) and in this thread:-
I tried re-booting with 9% battery in an attempt to reproduce a different problem (OTA-24).
As it happens my battery is now at 19% so I will wait for it to drop below 10% and try opening the setting page.
EDIT: OK. Tried opening the settings page with the battery at 8% and it was OK. Although it did once open with all the options in one single column down the middle of the screen. Restart and power off did not appear to work so well, it takes a llloonngg time to shutdown/power off and it takes a very long power button press to wake it up. Volla Phone X running dev channel of 20.04 (r725).

After installing focal 20.04, I comment some changes:
.- the alarm allows you to choose tones, but always sounds 'Alarm clock' even if you have another one selected.
.- The VPN does not work with mobile data, although it does with wifi. I contacted my phone operator in case it was an APN failure, but apparently not (in fact, it works with that same SIM on an Android terminal and worked on my Volla X before the update.)
.- uNav app waits for gps indefinitely.
.-. Adjusts screen brightness automatically (previously it didn't).
Gracias a todos los que colaboráis. Great job. -
- The alarm-sound-issue has already it's bug-report (it's not a volla-specific one)
- uNav works for me like under Xenial, maybe you have to set the permissions in the system-settings
