What kind of smart watch do you use (or would use if it had an app on UT)?

While waiting for my Pebble Steel to arrive (so I can debug why it refuses to work on more recent BlueZ) I'm working on an app for a few smartwatches/bands I have (generic M16-mini, Amazfit Bip, Bangle.js 2, possibly Amazfit Stratos and Huawei Band 7).

I'll make it generic enough to make it easy to add new watches/bands (but at the same time support as close to 100% of the device functionality as humanly possible), but if there is a particular device a lot of people use or want to use I could try to get it and add it in the first release.

@klh I guess the Pinewatch is a good candidate. I have one and right now it does not have any support in UT, I believe.

@wgarcia Do you mean PineTime or did they release something new? PineTime is a bit complicated, because there are so many options for the OS - so I guess it would rather be "support for Infinitime OS watches" rather than PineTime specifically.

So for PineTime if everyone could also mention the OS they are using on it it would be nice (and if you are running any non-stock OS on any other watch it would be good info as well, AsteroidOS is probably popular but there might be more).

Oh fun, PineTime uses the same IC that Bangle.js 2 uses, so the OS I'm making for that would also work on PineTime

                    cheers loudly 👏

                    Now to answer the question:
If I could no longer use my Pebbles, and if there were an app for it, I would be interested in a PineTime and I would most likely use its default OS, Infinitime.

                    Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

I have a Garmin, which I don't know how common they are in the community, but let's see what others have to say.
I also have to mention that mine syncs with my home wifi too, so the most useful features would be notification from the phone and music control.
If someone is willing to help me I could try to sniff BT traffic or whatever needed, but I have no idea what to do on my own 😅

I have a pinetime. Used to be able to sync the time, and steps with uwatch, didn't work last time i tried. Link to uwatch here: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6127/smartwatch-sync-app

Edit: i use infinitime, it's what it's shipped with,so i expect the majority use that. I use the watch daily, but just as a dumb one, would love to have notifications and time sync on it.

I used to use this to sync PineTime before I drowned it https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6127/smartwatch-sync-app?_=1683205489855 don't know if this is still on going or of any use to people here but thought it worth digging out.

Ah, I didn't see the uWatch app before, I guess it was never in OpenStore? Based on the limited number of responses it lookes like PineTime might be the second most popular one after Pebble. I also had no idea it shipped with a default OS, no info on the store page (but that makes things easier).

@mymike Which model is that? I'll probably get a Garmin once I get back to running properly 😄 Though if it syncs with WiFi a lot of the functionality might not be possible without an account and the official app. Sniffing BT is not hard, but the log file contains all Bluetooth traffic the phone participated in, and even if you filter it for the watch only, that can potentially still contain personal/confidential information (notification content, health data, etc). Not something you want to share imo.

@Lakotaubp Still wanna work on it. I just don't have a Pinetime currently. Mine broke down a while ago. And at the moment it's hard to find the time to.

@klh mine is the forerunner 935. It can sync through wifi or BT. Since I already have a Garmin account, after syncing via wifi I can see all the things from the website, so I'd use the core features from there. Might just need to be disconnected from the phone to switch to wifi but idk, it isn't explicit from the watch what it is using during sync...
I might try sniffing if I find some time, thanks for the link, I'll read it! Tbh I don't know which sensitive data it could contain that I don't want to share, aside from notifications which I can send dummy messages by myself: heart rate, step count, etc... I mean, what someone would ever do with them? Anyway I'll try to have a look at the content before sharing if it's human readable, thanks!

@mymike Btw some watches require an account to set up, so I plan on having some functionality for that anyway - might be able to pull data from a Garmin account too if they are not changing that too frequently.

I have an Amazfit Neo that I use with the amazing Gadgetbrigde on Android.

But I believe most Huami watches (at least the cheap/early non-Zepp-OS Amazfit and Xiaomi) are pretty similar, in my understanding, adding support for one would open up the door to quite a few of them (with some adaptions per watch, of course).

@klh - I have 4 different watches that I have flashed to Asteroid OS: Ticwatch C2+ (skipjack), Huawei gen1 (sturgeon), LG G Watch R (lenok), and LG Watch Urbane (bass). These sync to Android using either the Asteroid OS sync app or Gadgetbridge.

There is a UT native Asteroid OS sync app called Telescope that has yet to be updated to Focal, I believe the maintainer of this app was needing some help to figure out getting around some issues for this port.

                                        Best regards,

@Moem a bit too much happening at work, I didn't have the energy to do anything 😕 buuuut we did figure out that Pebbles work fine on focal, the issue is in the RockWork app and it would need a reimplementation - probably less work for me to add Pebble support to mine once it actually exists.

Other than Pebble, I definitely plan to support PineTime (with Infinitime) from the start since it seems like the second most popular one.

@klh Well, thank you, that is a bit of news!

My Pebble doesn't yet want to stay connected on focal on XperX or Op1. So I can't move from xenial to focal just yet. And since I will also need a watch app, I will simply wait patiently for your new app to eventually appear.
Take your time, it's not worth risking your mental health for an app. We'll just wait, it's fine. 💗
