    • RE: OTA-21 Call for Testing Companion Post

Sorry, this is a misunderstanding on my part.

      I saw

"Google accounts have been fixed and can now set up again properly",
.... "And a few bugs and common issues have been fixed, too."

and was of the opinion that something was fixed with the online accounts. That's why I tried "Generic CALDAV" again after a long time. I was pleased to see that this feature no longer crashes like it did in previous versions. However, appointments are still not synchronized.

@Mikaelb, I know the script solution and have used it for several months.

But, it no longer works for me with the OTA-21 RC.

In the terminal I start as part of a bash script :

      /usr/bin/syncevolution kalender

and get errors with OTA-21 now. That's new! At the moment the calendars cannot be used.

      The system message is

      status = 20010
error = error code from SyncEvolution error parsing config file (local, status 20010): kalender: backend not supported by any of the backend modules (syncxmlrpc, syncsqlite, syncqtcontacts, syncmaemocal, synckcalextended, syncfile, syncecal, syncebook, syncdav, syncactivesync , platformgnome) or not correctly configured (backend! 3dselect backend databaseFormat! 3d syncFormat! 3d)
      start = 1641012600, 2022-01-01 05:50:00 +0100
      end = 1641012600, 2022-01-01 05:50:00 +0100

      Edit :
Status 20010 could be : 20010 Error parsing XML config file

      Generic CALDAV? with Nexus 5

I am using a local CALDAV server with Ubuntu Mate (radicale server) and cannot sync my calendars. Radicale works as it should. I have been using my own calendar server successfully with all devices for years.

      What I do....
I add an internet calendar and select Generic CALDAV. After entering the local address ("192.168.x.x: 5232/username/") my 4 calendars and 1 address book are found and displayed. All 4 calendars are marked for viewing.
Furthermore, the account has been set up, seen and activated in the settings (com.ubuntu.calendar/calendar).

The synchronization can be started manually and seems to be doing something, but there are no appointments to be seen in the calendars. I was hoping that CALDAV would now work with this release candidate. Is there a log file that I can view and where can I find it?

If someone has a similar problem, I would be grateful for advice.

    • RE: How's the battery life experience in an Xperia X Compact?

@unrealb2 I took a similar way for testing purposes via TWRP and flashed LOS 16 (Droid 9) onto the X Compact. What can I say, the same device with the same battery only consumes 1.2-1.5% per hour and thus like my Nexus 5. UT seems to have a problem with the Xperia? Factor 10 per hour in consumption, that is useless. I will try OTA 17 again. If that also has this high consumption, it will stay at LOS 16.👎

but it crashes on push. Any advice on how you got it?

No I'm sorry. I had no problems.

    • RE: How's the battery life experience in an Xperia X Compact?

@messayisto Hmm, that doesn't sound good. For me it is 10-15% per hour when it is idle. Nevertheless, thanks for the information. I have now discovered a second problem. The device is SIM lock free and only accepts one of 3 new SIM cards. The other two are not detected?!. That is hard.

Does it video record? Anything you like or dislike about it?

What should I say, it's a phone! Video works very well with the front and rear cameras. I like this phone because it's small and OTA 16 runs on it with no problems. I haven't tested all functions yet.

But I already have one negative point: the battery is difficult to replace.

    • How's the battery life experience in an Xperia X Compact?

I flashed an old Xperia X Compact with a fresh OTA 16. The original battery (old, I know) has to be charged in the evening after a day of idling. For a 2700 mAh battery, that's disappointing. Is it worth buying a new battery and what runtime can I expect? Does anyone have any experience?

    • RE: A question about background activities in UT

Hmm, I am asking because my Xperia XA2 with Sailfish does not ping the world after a fresh installation and initial setup without installed apps. It's just quiet and doesn't connect to anyone while idle or in flight mode. Compared to the XA2, the N5 is surprisingly talkative.

OK, it's what it is. I just wanted to know. Thanks for the hints.

    • A question about background activities in UT

User in another forum was asked why Ubuntu Touch connects to Canonical and UBPorts every few minutes. The network traffic was measured with tcpdump. This behavior should be able to be observed with a fresh system without additionally installed apps and occurs when the system is idle. Is there an explanation for this? I'm interested in that too.

Initially some ntpserver belonging to Canonical are queried and

      0.push.ubports.com.https.

Thereafter, further calls are made periodically every few minutes:

      • cactuar.canonical.com.http
      • davybones.canonical.com.http
      • 0.push.ubports.com.5001

I would expect UT do not open any external connections when idle. It would save the battery and the data plan. What is it good for??

@povoq Great, this has the potential to fill the gap. Can you explain Omemo in more detail? How is it activated? I use the site https://mov.im and haven't found any hint of encryption there.

@4carlos said in xmpp Messenger ??:

Why should UT not be for me? The N5 with UT is in daily use. Dino and Gajim are not "apps" (kiddy word) written for a mobile system, they are full desktop applications.

uTouch is not for running full desktop applications, appart in libertine.
Did you try libertine to run those?

Yes, I did. Dino as my favorite is not in the repos of xenial 16.04. It was added later.

@keneda said in xmpp Messenger ??:

If you want ubports devs to port new XMPP messenger or update existing one, you might be disapointed.

I am not sure the OP was actually expecting the core devs to fix the XMPP messenger situation in Ubuntu Touch, but merely expressing their frustration at the current state of affairs. ]

      Correct.

I have a Pinephone with which I test other distros. With the "scale-to-fit" option, more or less desktop applications that are offered in the repos run fine (Evolution, yeah!) with the Pinephone. Dino works great on PP.

I'm not complaining about UT, but about the fact that Kaidan was discussed some time ago and nothing more happens for UT. Kaidan is completely unusable on the Nexus and others(?). Something like that doesn't have to be in the open store. It's just frustrating and I ask for alternatives.

      Edit:
Explanation: After installing Kaidan, I can log in and see my contacts. When I start Kaidan for the second time, it crashes. Only a reinstallation helps until the second start. In other words, it starts exactly once.

      converse.js (7.04) , https://conversejs.org/fullscreen.html

My experience: This page runs slow but well in the Morph browser. 1:1 chats even work with Omemo, MUC works without encryption but not with Omemo encryption. Attempting to send the message blocks further input. The message will not be sent. It only helps to log out and log in again. It looks like a bug in converse.js?

Anbox with Conversations is not a good alternative. Yes, we can use Conversations and Threema too, but Anbox only offers rudimentary capabilities. Sending files, pictures, emoji and so on is very limited There are no notifications either. A running Anbox container drains the battery quite quickly.

    • xmpp Messenger ??

Is there a usable xmpp messenger? Kaidan is a joke and crashes on launch on the Nexus 5. I haven't seen any progress for almost 1,5 years and it shouldn't be in the store anymore. Will Kaidan be developed any further?

ConverseJS seems like the only option? Other distros offer something like Dino, Gajim, Chatty ...

    • Synchronize appointments with caldav and radicale

Has anyone with a Nexus 5 been able to successfully synchronize calendar with radicale?

The calendars are visible, but no appointments can be seen. I set up the account using the calendar. I set up several calendars in radicale. I get a synchronization message for everyone but the calendar is empty ?!

My radicale server has been in use with other devices for years without any problems. What's wrong?
