I struggled a bit (see my other post here) and rooted the tablet, but now it functions. It was well worth it. What a pleasure to go to the app store and everything is free! My kid got all the games and she loves the planetarium.

RE: Waiting for device - Asserting unlocked bootloader variable
SOLVED!
Typing in that order 3 lines of code :
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flashing unlockFinally did the trick!
UBP took over and installed Ubuntu Touch!

RE: Where is the Desktop?
Maybe I should try, then :). Did a bit of coding way back, mostly javascript, perl and a bit of C++. How hard can it be?

Where can I find a good tutorial and platform?
My kid's tablet is full of games. When I try to do something on it, I have to hunt through all the icons for the utility app I want.
I want folders and the ability to drag and drop all these game icons into a folder called "Games". Similar to regular Ubuntu, where the desktop functions as a kind of file manager, and like there is on Android.
Where can I find a good tutorial and platform for creating Ubuntu Touch apps?

RE: Where is the Desktop?
Hum, and creating folders there to move the apps into somehow sounds unlikely to do what I would like... But I'll give it a try next time, you never know.

I'd say this is one of the first times I've seen something posted to New Contributors that was actually suited for that category...
Lol, maybe the description of "New Contributors" should be modified?

How to edit text files?
I have 2 text editors, Notebook and Tedit. But they have no "File/Open" option allowing me to find the file I want to edit. I can find it in File Manager, but it doesn't offer the option to open the text file with either Notebook or Tedit. I couldn't find "file associations". I viewed my file in the terminal with nano but the displayed keyboard doesn't have the "control + letter" option needed to save any modification.
I read advice saying to copy the file to a pc for modifications and then copying it back on the tablet. I guess I could do that but it's not a very satisfying method.
I mean files in text format, not necessarily .txt files. The one I was aiming for is a .conf

RE: How to stop apps from asking for my password?
Got it, thank you. For File Manager, it's a little symbol, 2 horizontal lines, the top one has a circle on the left, the other one has a circle on the right.

It functions! I was opening the apps the wrong way round. Thank you.

RE: How to stop apps from asking for my password?
Can't find it... In system settings I have "flight mode", "rotation lock", "updates", "network", "personal", "system", "about" and "reset".
