    • RE: OTA 3 suggestions: your wanted features

      My wishlist is:

      • less crashes! I often have the browser or the telegram client stuck in the loading screen forever or the phone gets slow and then reboots.

      • better browser. The current one seems to be old (some pages don't work)

      • better telegram client. The current client behaves really weird sometimes, especially when I have bad mobile connection. Also I can't join the UBPorts whatsapp group on my UBPorts phone. >_<

      • Some solution to run stuff in the background! No background processes just kills so many stuff with this phone.
For example: Useful stuff like the Weather or Nearby scopes are just useless when they just start searching the GPS and then loading data when I open them. I don't want to wait 5 minutes to see the currently correct info. Especially in scopes! They should periodically update position and data or they are just useless.
Not to mention the strange messaging method of the telegram client to get push notifications to work.

    • RE: Welcome to the UBports community! Introduce yourself here!

      Hello,
my name is Philipp, I'm 40 years old and am from Germany.

I use UbPorts phone as a daily driver for now more than 6 and a half years. I just noticed today through this forum, I can't believe it myself. 🙂 I experienced the good and bad stuff with it but I am satisfied.

I try to convince people that UbPorts is cool. 😄

    • RE: OTA 3 suggestions: your wanted features

Oh, I can think of one more suggestion:

      • a built in possibility to resize images (in the gallery for example)

On my BQE5, the camera app only allows to take pictures with the full 19.5MP. Even in lowest picture quality that amounts to 7+MB per picture with the right motive.

It is no fun to send images via telegram if they are 7+MB. This huge size is useless for this use case.
And posting those pictures on twitter is nearly impossible because the twitter app crashes in 90% of tries to post such a huge picture.

And I haven't found any app so far that can resize images. 😕

    • RE: OTA-2 complete?

      @bq4.5 Yeah, me too!
I have an BQ E5 and those two features, flashlight indicator and OTA changelogs, are missing with the OTA-2 update.

I thought maybe I didn't look in the right places for the changelogs but the flashlight should be there when I pull down the battery indicator but it is not.
Did the E5 not get those two or is this an error?

    • RE: [Discussion] File Manager improvements
      1. UTs philosophy is to be open so a file manager with which you can access the phone fully (not just files by content category like gallery/music) is important.

      2. Copy/Delete files. Renaming files. Get information about files

      3. Getting an overview wether files are on phone or SD card. Some use cases like getting information about image files might be better done in gallery. But since the gallery is really lacking atm I have to do this in the file manager. There is no way to see the size or resolution or an info about a picture in the gallery for example.

      4. select all missing. Some UI stuff, like the "Places" header hiding the path input

    • RE: How to change the password of a system account?

@arubislander said in How to change the password of a system account?:

I think the main issue is that your token gets invalidated because of the password change. Did you use your actual account password? What if you create an application password in Nextcloud and use that instead?

EDIT: I can confirm that if you add the account using an application password, then changing the account password has no effect on the token, and you continue to be able to access the server from both Ghostcloud and UBSync.

This is a good idea! I did not think of that.
I will try this too, thank you!

EDIT: App password works, this is the way! I'll just trust it will still work when I change the user PW. XD

@arubislander said in How to change the password of a system account?:

The way you did it is indeed the intended procedure. It works the same way on Desktop Linux (see Online Accounts). You see, the accounts do not store your username and password, but a long lived token that was received from, in this case, Nextcloud.

In fact, it should not have been necessary to update the password of the Nextcloud account on Ubuntu Touch, unless changing the password invalidated the token, which is possible, now I think about it.

Thanks for the explanation. At least I did not miss something.

Did you confirm that you no longer had access to your Nextcloud server with the unmodified account?

Yes, both GhostCloud and UBSync could not connect to the server anymore.

The thing is, when I have to delete and recreate the system account it is a new account. Then I have to go into every app that used this account and point it to the new account. In the case of UBSync, I have to recreate every sync operantion that used the old account.

That kinda defeats the whole point of having global system account when I have to reconfigure every app that uses them anyway in case of a change. 😞

    • How to change the password of a system account?

Okay, this feels like a stupid question but I can't find where to do this.

      Problem is:

      1. I have an account in the UbPorts global "Accounts" (the ones in the system settings). In my case it's an Nextcloud account but that shouldn't matter.
      2. I change the password for that account in the remote system, in my case on my Nextcloud server.
      3. Now I want to update the password in my UbPorts nextcloud account. Where do I do that?

The only way I managed it was by deleting the account and creating it anew with the new password. But that can't be the intended procedure, right? How do I change a system account password?

@sverzegnassi Oh, I wasn't complaining about the position of the hamburger menu, just that it shouldn't be a hamburger. I'd say it needs another icon. 🙂

And yeah, the Go Back is i bit confusing. 😎

      Nice redesign!
I would add as a comment that the sandwich-icon in the upper-right corner should be changed as it only opens the location selection. Normally there is a menu behind such a sandwich-icon, so that's confusing especially since there is the same icon in the lower-right corner.

Can it be that the translation service is totally down now or is it just me?
https://translate.ubports.com/ just gives me a connection error. 😕
