RE: My Ubuntu Touch daily driver is...
Ive been using the xperia x compact for about 5 months now. Ive also used nexus5 and nexus6p.
But for me smaller size was really important, which is not for most i guess. This is my favorite phone ive owned, everything works up to my standards. The only little huckups is the headphone jack doesnt work, volume while phone call cant be adjusted so its stuck at max.
I initially got this phone and used UT on it then switched to LineageOS and was blown away with how snappy and optimizes tjat OS is. But eventually i found myself wanting to be back on UT just better apps for what i need like isodrive, Utudu, and knowing this project is still working and being upgraded. LineageOS for this device isnt supported anymore. Also lineageOS is constantly pinging google even tho you cant access google apps unless u download their gooleplaystore spyware. So id rather not use lineageOS. I does however make me appreciate optimzed software. -
RE: black screen

But if any oneis wondering i installed android 8 stock rom from xperifirm on windows10. Linux versiom coulnt get to work. Then i fastboot oem 7.1 binaries.

black screen
Does anyone else have luck installing on this device? I had it installed a while ago but i went to lineageOS for a little bit. I decided to go back but following https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3229/sony-xperia-x-suzu-f5121-f5122 steps doesn't work for my device.
After it says it's done, I just get a black screen sitting there. It's more faded than completly dark. After resetting it it goes to the ubports recovery screen. Any advice or tips id appreciate.I had the stock android rom installed updated to android 8.
i flashed the recommended binaries https://developer.sony.com/file/download/software-binaries-for-aosp-nougat-android-7-1-kernel-4-4-loire/and then i twrped and wiped. and went for the install but keeps failing.
I appreciate any advice. I've also tried different cords, but same results.

RE: First Time Install
@crab_aesthetics keep us updated, Iām thinking of getting a pixel 3a. Iām curious what you think of the speed or performance

RE: Pinephone Rant
@dobey thats great news, so your saying theres definitely room for performance improvement. I look forward to seeing that.

RE: Pinephone Rant
Lol 38 common ur a baby i started learning code at 48.
Help out the mobian or arch community with pinephone. If you put in a little effort everyday eventually youll be able to copy other peoples software and put it on ur OS of choice for everyone to enjoy.
I personally think UT is too polished(bloated) for an underpowered device like pinephone. I like UT and use as a daily driver, but just on a quicker device like my nexus 6p.

RE: Issues with Cell Service Can not figure out.
@trwidick dang, thanks for the information. Hope the talk and text works soon lol I was thinking of upgrading to that phone but i just checked and my nexus 5 apparently has a faster cpu. Not sure how real world the pixel 3a feels. I know it has the octo core compared to my quad core.

RE: Issues with Cell Service Can not figure out.
@trwidick On xfinitymobile, did you have it activated first and it worked then you installed ubuntu touch? I guess ill wait until more bugs get fixed until i switch to pixel 3a from nexus 5

RE: Bluetooth camera control?
bluetooth is kinda a pain in the butt. i got a nexus 5 and i never have luck with bluetooth connecting it to my bose headphones. even on my laptop it struggles time to time.

RE: Issues with Cell Service Can not figure out.
@trwidick hey are you using a pixel 3a Xl or regular? i was thinking of getting an XL and also getting xfinitymobile, any luck?
-
XL version?
Does anyone use the XL version? I was thinking of buying one but it seems like ut only works for non xl version.

RE: LineageOS and UT
@povoq thanks for the reply. I figured it would take time, I prefer the UT setup or navigation, the slider. But not going to lie the battery and speed of lineageOS is something to work towards to. Id imagine if UT has the same speed and battery life as lineageOS, our operating system would be a lot more desired. I think this is why a lot of people get into linux in the first place, bring back life to a old system.

LineageOS and UT
Is it possible, to instal openstore apps on lineageOS?
I enjoy ubuntutouch but on some devices its very slow like my nexus 7. On my nexus 7 android oem is slow and ubuntu touch is roughly the same. But i installed LineageOS and its fast reminds me of installing arch on my old laptop. Brings back the life in it lol.Anyways just thought that would be awesome if i could somehow use UT apps on lineageOS. I wish UT was as snappy as LineageOS.

RE: How's the battery life experience in an Xperia X Compact?
@4carlos Interesting, my Xperia x Compact, has the same battery life as my nexus 5. I do know lineageOS has really good battery management, which I could get that on UT
but overall id say UT is the same battery life as a regular android or ios so its normal for me. LineageOS would really extend the battery to a couple days, not sure how they do it. They also have nothing really on that operating system -
RE: Sony Xperia X Compact (F5321) | UT extremely slow, no WiFi, no SIM
@drikk Do you currently use ubuntu touch on your xperia or are you back on android? I was wondering if you fixed your slow or laggy UT because i have a nexus 7, and it also is slow. But the original android oem was also slow. So im afraid its just the hardware.

RE: OpenStore question
@cibersheep Thank you for your thorough answer, I like the idea of the openstore but I remember hearing concerns for snap packages because of their centralized nature. My understanding is because you have to be approved simliar to ios or android.
I'd assume because OpenStore's opensourced problems like these are alot less likely.
