Cannot install ubuntu touch on BQ M10 ubuntu edition
-
@lakotaubp When asked by installer I pressed pwr/vol down and released when screen went black. No response. No response from adb devices in terminal either, but I wasn't that quick. Tablet charging screen came up, now its off.
-
@ziggutas nearly done for tonight open the terminal on the tablet and try sudo oem unlock or have we done that brain switching off now
-
@ziggutas Right try this and let me know
Hold power and vol up wait till it buzzes
Let go if power button
As soon as powered by screen appears repress and hold power button
Don't let go of vol up at any stage
That just got me the menu you need 3 times in a row -
@lakotaubp Can't see a terminal on tablet. Or a file manager.
Bit puzzled by that. Can't remember whether they were there or not before resetting the tablet.
Tried your technique with the power and vol up buttons and tablet just kept returning to the powered by screen. -
@ziggutas terminal and file manager are in the Openstore which should be on the tablet. So I switched of tablet and held down vol up button then power button as soon as it vibrates take your finger of the power button only. As soon as the powdered by screen appears press the power button screen should go black then bootloader menu should appear.
Try quickly pressing power button if that doesn't work hold it in until bootloader appears don't let go of vol up button -
@lakotaubp No openstore on tablet. Am I not getting something here? This is a brand new M10 from BQ : ubuntu edition.Obviously I can go to openstore via browser, download terminal for vivid, which I have done, but lack terminal to install!

@ziggutas Your tablet is still on the original canonical Ubuntu touch, yes. With developer mode on. And the above instructions will not open the bootloader to access fast boot. Is that correct, still.
If nothing works can you do a full factory reset(again) so you have a clean setup and confirm all is as you got it and it sets up OK. Feel like I'm missing something very obvious -
@lakotaubp Tablet on original canonical ubuntu as supplied by BQ,yes, with developer mode on, yes.
I reset device again earlier and it looks the same; although I couldn't swear to it.
I've taken a picture of the apps scope , but don't know how to post it. -
@lakotaubp And yes, above instructions will not open bootloader etc.
-
@ziggutas No need really that side is not working now. Ubuntu one account set up? As you will need that later for ubports
-
@lakotaubp Ubuntu one account set up on tablet, yes.
-
@ziggutas OK at least that works : ) Going to have a think for a bit now because this should be fairly straight forward. So not ignoring you just thinking.
While I'm away look up Ubuntu terminal commands you want something that will force/put a device into bootloader maybe like sudo adb device fastboot etc and just try them in mint or Ubuntu you never know.
Stuff to do today back later -
@lakotaubp OK. Thanks, will do.
-
Try these might help haven't read most of it. Remember that what works on bq phone should work on the m10
-
@lakotaubp Thanks for your help over the last few days but I can't do any more;it's doing my head in. adb can see my phone but not the tablet. Pressing buttons will not get anywhere. No terminal or file manager on tablet. No way to update tablet or install software, as far as I can tell. It all looks a bit too difficult. I'm going to put the tablet in solitary confinement for a while and maybe and try to sort out a few problems with the phone!!
Bye for now.
-
@ziggutas I'm reading some issues now and this grabbed my attention https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/802
This is the first time I've read such thing but maybe this is the source of all your troubles... and the solution! In short: you need to use usb 3.0 to install UT on a BQ M10
-
@advocatux That was a timely reply; the sledgehammer was literally 5% off the vertical above my head. And M10 about to get it!!
No, seriously, that is very interesting. I have had a few problems with portable discs and usb 2.0 vs. usb 3.0 before.
I will give it a try later, the laptop has a usb 3.0 port.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks. -
@ziggutas good luck !!
-
@advocatux thanks again lets hope that's all it is.

@lakotaubp No go. All the same things not happening. ADB not detecting the tablet. That's it for now. If I can find somewhere to purchase a good quality cable and try that, maybe I'll give it another go. I feel that the tablet is fluffed up somehow from earlier efforts. I have no problems connecting bq phone with al the same cables and adb responds instantly. So it has to be tablet.
Might try on another machine when I get the chance.
