I know there is a topic for:"Will port ubuntu to device X" But imagine there is someone who are interesting in technology and what to have a teste on Ubuntu-touch on his own. He open the supported devices list, then he noticed that none of his devices are supported. Even, he can not buy one(most devices instand Fairphone2 are stopped producing) for Ubuntu-touch. And what about porting Ubuntu-touch to his phone on his own? He need a computer with Linux, knowledge on linux kernel compiling, and so much. Will he continue for just have a taste on a not stable system? I think answer is not.
Therefore, add more modern and popular devices to offical supported list is a important job to attract more user. Also, modern devices have much powerful hardware let ubuntu-touch proform better(such as nowadays most of devices in supported devices instand Meizu pro5 can not using wireless projection)
After that, we could post this good news to forums like XDA forum. This can make more people know and have a look on ubuntu-touch. As a result, there will be more people develop,donate and using ubuntu-touch. -
@xqqy I'm actually very much looking forward to finding out how the developers are getting on with porting UT to the Librem5 boards that arrived just before Christmas. I think that if it works well, it will be a much better way to go.

You are more than welcome to port to any newer devices you wish to see it on. Re-creating this same thread every couple months doesn't do anything to help achieve that.
There are a limited number of core developers, with a limited number of funds/devices, and a limited amount of time to spend on porting to new devices versus keeping the existing ones working. If you want to see other devices, the best thing to do is to start working on the port yourself, or put up enough of a bounty to cover the cost of the device and the time for someone to work on it, and hope someone will take up the challenge of porting for you.

@xqqy We would all like to see Ubuntu Touch working on other models and work is being carried out. New ports are expected 2019 I understand.
As @dobey clearly explained this is not easy and I fully agree with him that repeating the same point in different threads and ways is not helpful.
We are limited in time recourses and yes more funds would probably help. The main thing though is to get things right. Ubports is a small community compared to large multi nationals and their resources. We are building something very special and I personally don't want to loose that in a false rush to the the latest flash flashy device. -

But nowadays support list is really old. Some device is also too weak to support some new features (like my nexus7 doesn't have app start animation because it GPU is too weak) Maybe is time to drop some old device to newer one. -

Pulsar33+1 just look at the downloads at Lineage - there is definitely a need for OS supporting older hardware abandoned by the manufacturers - same with desktop hardware still running smooth with Linux while commercial OS are sluggish or won’t get updates or not running at all ...
please think about the planet before buying new hardware ...

I don't think that's how software development works. I mean, once a device is supported it basically stays suported. It's not that dropping support for an existing model would free a handful of developers to work on something else.

I don't know what startup animation you think you're not getting, but no, the Nexus 7 2013 hardware is not too old/weak. There isn't special animations that only show on devices with certain GPUs or anything like that either.

Being a porter myself, albeit not a very experienced one, but a porter none the less, I wanted to see UT on my device, nobody was working on it, so I took it apon myself to try and do it. I feel that was probably the hardest part of this whole thing for me. I have zero coding skills (unless you count BASIC) and I have been able to get a half working port so far, it took many hours spanned over 18 months to get where I am now, and so many questions I lost track, but if you show that you are trying to do it yourself, and say "I need help" the community will step up and help you as much as possible. I'd be glad to help you get started, just let me know if you would like to. I believe if I can get a half working port done, anyone with basic Linux skills could, asking questions like this generally only serve to frustrate some, annoy some, and overall negatively impact others that are involved. I understand the reasoning behind asking it, but at the end of the day if you want to know answers to things like this, look at the porting guide, that has a running list of ports for the people who have been doing the documentation for their ports, as well as the devices that have been ported, then if not sure asking on a public forum like this. I do apologize if I upset anyone, and I do encourage anyone reading this post to check the guide and try porting an old phone or tablet that may be laying in your desk drawer, cause while you may find that device to be "old and worthless" to you, someone else might still be using it and want to try UT on it, besides if you break an old device trying to port it, it just goes back into the drawer does it not?

I apologize for all my opinion above all. For never thinking about the plant. And now I am totally agree with you all. This really teach me a lesson about how to deal with the old device and how to deal with the plant and the new technology, which would never been tought in school or these company(maybe they just want to me buy an new model)

@xqqy no worries my friend, I do forgive you. I can tell you from personal experience the companies generally don't give a hoot about their customers, they want your money. I have come across a few companies in the past that actually do care, but those companies were "mom and pap" companies. I do try to impart wisdom or at least a different perspective on the people I meet if possible. I believe one can never have too many people in their circle, and a person is defined by the company they keep. I do hope we have many more conversations cause a different perspective can always lead to a great discussion.
