Hello everyone, on the previous Q&A there was a question which left me puzzled, it was about possible future inclusion of a firewall. From what I understood reading https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-blogs-news-1/post/terminal-chapter-2-3078 there is already a firewall in Ubuntu Touch, which you can turn on in Terminal. This is something I did, without adding specific rules. Why wasn't there any mention of this?
Also, you told introduction of a firewall could be messy because the OS uses older kernels.
What do you mean by that?
Is it better not to enable the firewall?
The possibility is mentioned in https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-blogs-news-1/post/ubuntu-touch-safety-architecture-25

Will webapp push notifications come with the new QT update?

            How about Redshift?, videochat?

May I ask what the plane box on Florian's shelves is?

I am curious: what happened to librem 5 UBports port?

While quite some months ago we saw quick progress, at some point for some reason it was more or less "wiped" from UBports site. What's the story behind this?

Purism recently claimed that hardware will be shipped "late November 2020". Will there still be a port available?

Would you please talk a bit about utqemu? And is any documentation available for it?

Why was Chromium chosen as a basis for the Morph browser instead of Firefox? Would it have been easier to install add-ons like NoScript and Badger with Firefox? What about Firefox Focus (aka Firefox Klar in Germany)?

Could it be because someone noticed that if you remove just one letter from "Purism", you get PRISM !?

                        ???

Morph is based on QtWebEngine which is based on Chromium.
Using Gecko (Firefox's engine) requires a huge load of pain and trouble.

@ubuntoutou I think the best way to get Firefox on the growing linux-on-phones ecosystem would be to convince Mozilla they should. As far as I know, there has never been a QML front built for Firefox.

There was a suggestion previously to do a feature QA on Pinephone. This could be a really good idea including tips, issues and ideas and would be great also for other officially supported devices -Pinetab FP2, OPO etc....

Could this be a regular feature perhaps with input from a regular volunteer user who runs Device X?

I got my Nexus 4 then 5 then FP2 then one plus cooking on #UBUNTU via @ubports and have run it on Op3T Op6t OP5T Pinephone/Pro Pine Tab and Pinebook Pro and my favourite OnePlus One.

Q1: why Sphinx was choosed for our documentation instead of (e.g.) mediawiki? what are its advantages over using a (e.g.) wiki?

@Neo Just a quick point to help with getting your question answered. Can you be more specific. Is it the porting info http://docs.halium.org/en/latest/porting/first-steps.html or https://docs.ubports.com/en/latest/porting/introduction.html that is at issue, or something else. What device to you want to build for etc. if you can give as much info as you can it all helps. Thanks

@UBportsNews Hey there guys. Big time fan of all things Linux. Been a Linux user for Decades and just discovered Ubuntu Touch Cellphone. I'm very new to cellphones. As a matter a fact. This Ubuntu Touch is my very first cellphone and so far I'm liking it, but only if I can get the WIFi working on it. That's whole another topic there. So I won't digress. So on to my question.

My question is how can I to Set Up Remote Desktop on my Ubuntu desktop and Ubuntu Touch cellphone?

I want to use the cellphone to remotely control my Ubuntu desktop machine when I'm out about.

Thanks again and can't wait to hear from you.

                                    Dave

For those interested in the question: I guess since there was no statement in this Q&A or even here from the developers, the status quo must still be the same as last mentioned in Oct 2019. Here is the links:

October 2019 Status of Ubuntu Touch on Librem 5 Smartphone
                                      Or a bit older:
                                      Ubuntu Touch Q&A 60 - October 2019

If there really is no newer info than this, then it essentially all is a sad story in more than one way.

IIRC and as far as I know UBports is waiting for a device in order to go further with the port.
But I'm not an insider and my memory can be tricky sometimes 😉

@3T_Ed There's, as usual on todays internet, a lot of things wrong in that article. It seems written by a pro-purism guy, grabbing arguments left and right without a lot of actual fact checking. For instance, he claims ubuntu touch has received only 26 commits since canonical left - which is not only plain wrong but a very easy thing to actually verify.

@3T_Ed Interesting article, food for thought indeed! It was quite long so I found myself skimming for the last 10,000 words or so (I'm kidding!) but actually I could see a lot of sense there. I thought it described quite well the reasons for starting from the ground up to save work later on.

I find myself thinking about purism in a slightly different way now.

I actually thought the author came across as neutral and balanced, without putting anybody down. Yes, very interesting, thanks for the link.
