And there is work to be done to inform the Japanese because this question is still being asked:

I don't know if qwerty japanese's availiable but you can add keyboard layouts in "language and text" settings, in setting app, then you can swap between them in text keyboard from the earth icon (short or long press for quick swapping/choosing).

Unfortunately, I don't see qwerty Japanese keyboard in the list. All of them are 6x6 matrix in Hiragana layout, its hard to type for me...
