I recently installed Ubuntu Touch on a OnePlus One phone. Everything seems to be working fine I can install apps via the store and they work. However I want to be able to edit my hosts file and even with root access I still cannot because I get an error "Read-only file system" Also from terminal if I type "sudo apt-get update" I get "Read-only file system" errors. How do I solve this issue.

Is this an error or is Ubuntu Touch set up this way for security and if so how can I just temporarily make it so that I can edit my hosts file or replace it with one I've already made on my computer.

        Thanks in advance.

@tommy Try UT Tweak Tool in the OpenStore that gives you the ability for read write. As for apt it's not advised for the reasons you suggest.

@lakotaubp Thank you so Much!!! I've been searching different forums and this worked perfectly!!! I made sure I chose the option that it will be back to read-only after reboot but now I have some sites blocked that I want blocked in my hosts file.

How do I change this post to show "Solved" as others have?

Glad you got it all figured out.
To mark the thread as solved.
First you'll have to go to the gear icon menu and select "ask a question" then go back to this menu and the option to "mark as solved" will be available.

You must be aware that any read-only file you edited will be reverted to it's previous state, or updated, by OTA updates, so your edits will be lost and you'll have to edit again.

@keneda Thank you for the heads up. How often should I check, I know I'm still good for now though just checked and it still has the hosts file I swapped.

If you're on stable, OTA 16 will be announced on the forum like on this thread for OTA 15 : https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5314/ota-15-is-released

I am having a similar problem.
                        [ Error writing build.prop: Read-only file system ]
This is what i get when I try to change the build.prop file.

Doesnt matter if I change the permissions with sudo or not. IT just always tells me it is a read only file system. How do I make this a writeable file system.

                        Any ideas.
