Dekko login blocked by Google!?
-
I installed UBPorts Ubuntu Touch on my mobile on 2021-06-11.
(love Ubuntu Touch in its own right - and have had a huge sense of relief ever since)I installed and configured Dekko 2 for a my_email@gmail.com - the only reference in the mobile to my gmail account - and I have been receiving emails just fine and didn't receive any security notifications from Google (though I only connect to the Internet very seldomly).
Yesterday, I connected the smartphone to a Wi-Fi, Decko downloaded my new emails immediately and I received 2 security emails (in the same minute) from Google warning me that «someone had used my password to login into my account and Google blocked the login»
(^ translated from the language I received it in).Why would Dekko have triggered such a block/warning from Google?
I usually severely distrust such security warnings from the likes of Microsoft email servers, since they appear to have a strong tendency to «judge» any non-Microsoft clients as untrustworthy and worthy of being «security» blocked (with "security" probably meaning the security of MS' revenue).
However, I have used the smartphone to access my emails some 10(?) times already, without ever triggering any such warnings. Further, the Dekko client did get to download the emails, including the security warning emails themselves.

@pauloaugusto They give this warning for anything that they do not recognise out of the box. Not everytime but now and then. It is to protect your account and no need to worry as they will give you a location to check. If you have apple accounts or run gmail on apple this does not happen. You however are running UT on a device they cannot detect and using dekko.
Try ticking allow is it insecure ir unsecure devices in your google security settings. It may help. -
Google recognises that you are using one its services (gmail in this case) on a device it does not recognise, so it asks if you have permitted that action.

I have a lot of those emails Yeah, as long as you know it was you it's fine. I usually get them when I boot up my other UT devices that I rarely use now.

Hello, if someone doesn’t get it, here’s the solution.
-
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA):
-
Under Google Sign In, find and click Two-Step Verification.
-
Follow the instructions to enable two-step verification. You will need to add a phone number to receive codes.
-
Create an application password:
-
After enabling two-factor authentication, go to https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
-
Create a password for the Mail application. It will look like a set of 16 characters.
-
-
Set up Dekko 2 using the application password (16 characters):
- Open the Dekko 2 app on your Ubuntu Touch device.
- Proceed to add a new account and enter your Gmail email address.
- When asked for a password, use the generated app password instead of the normal password from your Google account.
IMAP and SMTP server settings:
IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
IMAP port: 993
IMAP encryption: SSL/TLS
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 465 or 587
SMTP encryption: SSL/TLSTwo days of torment and I finally managed to do it.
