@bmarkman You need to put the device into developer mode (tap build No 7-9 times, can't remember exactly) enable Android debugging, MTP transfer. Check the bootloader is unlocked (it normally is on a N5) and install adb and fastboot tools onto your laptop. Then the Ubuntu touch installer should do the rest, more details here https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/hammerhead/

@bmarkman Just to avoid possible confusion: you are asking about installing, not porting. UT is already ported to the Nexus 5 (in other words, there is an installation file available for it in the installer).

Probably ChromeOS but you can install standard Linux apps as it runs a Linux kernel.
Or even a standard Linux, I doubt Windows can run on a Chromebook.
