As a frontend developer I think the lomiri desktop environment is a great looking environment but:

      the ux is dated.
it is how we used to navigate 6 years ago on phones not bigger than 5 inch.
Even apple has said goodbye to their back button at the top left center. it's not great ux and forces the user to use it's other hand or to grab it in a different way. the home button is not present even tough i get why it's something users are familiar with. sometimes you just want to close an app/game in one swipe. i find allot of things about the ui frustrating because it's not user friendly for the user with a bigger screen or even for the user that's used to doing stuff with one hand.
only left handed people have a decent experience at the moment.

      The customization could be better.
I am not such fan of the color palette. and maybe a material you feature could make the entire ui even better.

      desktop
The desktop/homescreen is empty which is a great thing for the mind but some widgets would make the entire experience better.

      Conclusion
Maybe a plugin system or an api is an idea that could be implemented.

these are just ideas but i think new swipe gestures and some improvements will give the operating system the boost it deserves.

This is a topic by itself, and a loooooong thread exists here about it.

          Hello and welcome @slyvan

I understand your point of view, but personnally I prefer the UX with Ubuntu Touch to both iOS and Android for the same reasons you described.
I found it easier to use my phone single handed with Ubuntu Touch than with Android or iOS.
I'm right handed but I usually prefer to use my phone with the left hand, so I can perform other actions...

So I'm totally for customization but I guess it'll have to respect few constraints like:

          • Not impose one pov against another
          • Avoid to crown the parameters settings (which is a nightmare in Android and iOS)
          • Be easy to use for average user

If you want to propose a mockup or an architecture to build on your ideas it would be great.

Yeah the topic is mainly that the core team cannot do such task and that contributors from the community should step up.
Of course people will be there along the way to help.

This is a friendly community afterall

              Sorry, but :

              • I don't want any silly widgets on my home screen at all.
              • Buttons are more reliable than swipes.
In fact I wouldn't mind beeing able to use the hardware buttons on my BQ E5 HD phone in combination with Ubuntu Touch like they work when Android is installed! 🙂
              • The old Unity look is just fine : It's what Ubuntu Touch is known for! 😉

So... uhm... yeah... I pretty much disagree with all your complaints!

              LOL! :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Ohh and I don't get the "one hand usage of the phone" thing at all : I simply use both hands because it's simply better to do so...

              My phones :

              • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
              • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
              • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

              P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)

@nero355 i mean fair but the widgets are like an optional thing if it where present in ubuntu.

and true buttons are more reliable but unfortunately it will be hard for most phones to keep the buttons as it will be less present each year.

and yea it looks fine but a bit more customization like windows phone would be nice

I'm just pointing out that most more modern phones will have less of a good user experience.

and there are lots of people that use the phone while driving etc (not saying it's a good thing but still )

i think it's based on preference

There are some apps on the openstore that intend to fill the need of a custom homescreen.
First there is... Home from @pavelprosto https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6001/need-testers-home-screen-for-ubuntu-touch?_=1637710369790 , there is also launcher modular.

Sorry I don't understand what you're looking for.
Sketch: is it the software or some kind of language or else?
And what is a "component library" for you?
For hardware electronics I understand, for software it would be a design documentation I guess

                        🤔

I meant software buttons : The arrow for "Back" for example 🙂

But yeah : Hardware buttons stay the best! 😄

and yea it looks fine but a bit more customization like windows phone would be nice

Windows Phone was a very crippled basic OS that I never liked to be honest...

I am glad it disappeared even it meant that Continuum disappeared too! 🙂

I'm just pointing out that most more modern phones will have less of a good user experience.

                          I don't get that one ?!

and there are lots of people that use the phone while driving etc (not saying it's a good thing but still )

                          Don't get me started... 🙄

True, but I also think that Ubuntu Touch should be something different than Android or iOS instead of just beeing choice #3 or #4 if you count in Jolla Sailfish 😉

                          My phones :

@applee more like a library for design with premade components. is there a design system i can use to make the mockups or do people currently just create every mockup from scratch

                                Oh, I see.
QML is already some kind of design library.
In Ubuntu Touch we can find stuff like QQC2 and the older library from Canonical's era but QQC2 is the way to go in my opinion
