It was quite a tedious trial and error process to find out how to configure Dekko-2 but it finally worked. Then, from one day to the next, it did not download or send mails anymore. After I had failed to find a solution, I finally deleted my account and reinstalled Dekko 2.

Since then I couldn't get it to work again. When I enter the data for my gmx account in the manual IMAP configuration, it leads me to a screen called Server Configuration ("Serverkonfiguration"). I changed the entries to what had worked before and later to a lot of other combinations, but without success: when I press OK ("Weiter") it always says Validating Login Data ("Logindaten werden validiert") and then goes back to the Server Configuration screen.

        What am I doing wrong?
(And, by the way, is there another email app that I could use?)

Dekko has its quirks and I also had such trouble with it.
I installed "UT Tweak Tool" from the open store and used it to removed all data from Dekko's directory (data + configuration).
It helped with most of my accounts.

I found that some company's email accounts might have issues (maybe not standard IMAP accounts ?!)

            No, only Dekko for now.

Only other solution in UT is to use webbrowser Morph to check emails on webmail.

Dekko works with imap/smtp, i don't know what is GMX.

There is also waydroid where i guess you can use K9, but that's not "native" so it's another topic.

I am using Dekko and GMX account, it works fine send and receive emails.
Maybe encryption and/or authentication are incorrect.

Imap server data is here: https://support.gmx.com/pop-imap/imap/server.html

I found the cause: I had used German special characters in my gmx password. After I changed the password, configuring Dekko was no problem at all -- it did not even show that "Server Configuration" screen.

One possible explanation: The "German" characters on the UT keyboard only look right, but they are not actually German characters. For example, the ü is also used in the Turkish alphabet, where it looks exactly the same.

I know from Russian characters that the cyrillic e looks exactly like the Latin e, but is not recognised by web searches as a Latin e. So maybe gmx does not recognise the ü froum Ubuntu Touch because it is another ü than the one from a German keyboard.

EDIT: The UT keyboard does not seem to be the cause: I copied the password from my computer into a text file and from there into the Dekko configuration -- still did not work. So I guess there must be some problem with Dekko transferring German Special Characters in logins to the mail server.

Good job! And now you get to mark the issue as solved. :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hmm, unfortunately it seems I was wrong about assuming that German special characters in the password were at fault.

After some time I again used such characters and Dekko DID work -- but only once: After that one time it would not download any additional messages, but it does SEND e-mails. Very strange.

The Incoming Server is configured like this:

                    Hostname: imap.gmx.net
                    Port: 993
Username: Same as outgoing Server (which works)
Password: Same as outgoing Server (which works)
                    Encryption: Force encryption (SSL/TLS)
                    Authenitification: LOGIN
                    Allow untrusted certificates: NO
Chec for new mail on start: YES
                    Enable IMAP IDLE: YES
                    Check interval (minutes): five
                    Check when roeaming: NO
                    Maximum mail size (MB): 100
                    Automatically download attachments: NO
                    Allowed to delete mai: yes

                    Can anybody spot the problem?

@anna My web.de account (which I think is the same provider as gmx.de) works with the same settings without problems. But I don't have any special german character in my password.

Thank you guys! I tried again a new password and now it has been working for two days. So apparently the special characters were indeed the problem. Very strange. Works with both host names.
