@arubislander Probably needs fresh wipe and repartitioning from 20.04 rather than just installing 24.04 straight which as the FP4 is my DD I am not going to do just yet.
As soon as all the core apps work then I will give it a try. -
@Lakotaubp unless I have missed that, but we can't build apps for noble yet, since we are missing clickable images for 24.04. So they either work or we need to wait for clickable adaption.

@mariogrip said in This week in development (week 52 2024):
I'm pleased to report that the latest daily build should have all hardware features working, including GPS, calling, sound, fingerprint reader, NFC, and more. We've also fixed several indicator bugs, making the 24.04 base system quite usable.
Currently, we're missing 24.04 built clicks, which is why some core apps aren't starting yet. While most of them build and run fine, we're waiting for some clickable changes to enable compilation. There are also some pending tasks related to accounts and push services, plus likely a few bugs to address.
As Marius says calls etc should work. I was just testing what would work on a straight move from 20 to 24.04. Which is not a lot without wipe so far.

For those who have tested, does morph work well with all sites ?
Edit :: and hotspot ? -
On my device, Morph and the WebView in core apps works, but the keyboard doesn't show up when taping the search textfield.
-
@ikoz I hear a keyboard fix is on the way in the next build or so.

@arubislander Installed 24.04 on a clean wiped OP5 and it works as it should at this stage. So not 100%proof but seems to confirm just switching to 24.04 on a none wiped device caused problems at this stage.
Will try a pixel 3a for a straight move today and let you know. -

Not did yet with 24.04 but it is exact. It has always been said that it is better to do a clean install if you change the "vintage" of Ubuntu. The problems are largely reduced.

@domubpkm Yes that is what is advised. It would be good however if it was possible to move without having to backup all your info and wipe the device to install an OS distro upgrade so was just giving it a go which must put some people off the move. Also if we want more people to use UT in the future then we need to find some way round the issue.
Good to find out it is not possible and advice remains wipe the lot and start over. Tried the 3a and same result as the FP4 nothing starts. -
@Lakotaubp ... that's why I waited for focal OTA-3 before moving from xenial to focal on my daily Volla at the time, wanting to do a clean, stable installation, and with the indispensable hotspot for me. What about the hotspot with 24.04 currently? Did you tried ?
-
@domubpkm Just updated and it appears to work yes.
Edit: Still no on screen keyboard yet. -
@Lakotaubp Good start but What do you mean in your Edit ? Screenshot possible ?
-
@Lakotaubp
That would not be a problem for average users to reinstall if it was possible to save user data easily, using the installer for instance. -
@domubpkm There is no screen keyboard available when using Morph or weather app for instance.
-
@Lakotaubp Here's the bugreport. The missing OSK and the lack of adb is keeping me away from playing around with the current state.

Hi @domubpkm
This post is more intended for developers to help them test things out and tackle the remaining issues.
Please refrain from asking about daily driving it. The goal is to gather contributions not slow devs progresses with requests. -
I have to step back and say:
wow i can not believe this has come this far @mariogrip
Congratulations
It seems a long time since this first started..Well done.Second. These updates are so helpful. Stops the questions but still yet leads them.
Third. What do you need from US...the community first?

@Lakotaubp Today I installed 24.04 on my Pixel 3a. I unticked both check-boxes and went for it (so no wipe, and no install via boot-loader). So far a great experience. Most apps work (only SturmReader doesn't, so far) and the OSK shows up everywhere it is expected to, except in Morph.
So I would say it is possible to upgrade in place.
EDIT: I also installed it on my JingPad following the same procedure. With the same positive results.
-
@arubislander How odd. Will try again without any boxes ticked.

@kristatos OSK fix seems to be merged, i am also waiting for adb
