This week in development (week 52 2024)

@domubpkm Yes that is what is advised. It would be good however if it was possible to move without having to backup all your info and wipe the device to install an OS distro upgrade so was just giving it a go which must put some people off the move. Also if we want more people to use UT in the future then we need to find some way round the issue.
Good to find out it is not possible and advice remains wipe the lot and start over. Tried the 3a and same result as the FP4 nothing starts. -
@Lakotaubp ... that's why I waited for focal OTA-3 before moving from xenial to focal on my daily Volla at the time, wanting to do a clean, stable installation, and with the indispensable hotspot for me. What about the hotspot with 24.04 currently? Did you tried ?
-
@domubpkm Just updated and it appears to work yes.
Edit: Still no on screen keyboard yet. -
@Lakotaubp Good start but What do you mean in your Edit ? Screenshot possible ?
-
@Lakotaubp
That would not be a problem for average users to reinstall if it was possible to save user data easily, using the installer for instance. -
@domubpkm There is no screen keyboard available when using Morph or weather app for instance.
-
@Lakotaubp Here's the bugreport. The missing OSK and the lack of adb is keeping me away from playing around with the current state.
-
Hi @domubpkm
This post is more intended for developers to help them test things out and tackle the remaining issues.
Please refrain from asking about daily driving it. The goal is to gather contributions not slow devs progresses with requests. -
I have to step back and say:
wow i can not believe this has come this far @mariogrip
Congratulations
It seems a long time since this first started..Well done.Second. These updates are so helpful. Stops the questions but still yet leads them.
Third. What do you need from US...the community first?
-
@Lakotaubp Today I installed 24.04 on my Pixel 3a. I unticked both check-boxes and went for it (so no wipe, and no install via boot-loader). So far a great experience. Most apps work (only SturmReader doesn't, so far) and the OSK shows up everywhere it is expected to, except in Morph.
So I would say it is possible to upgrade in place.
EDIT: I also installed it on my JingPad following the same procedure. With the same positive results.
-
@arubislander How odd. Will try again without any boxes ticked.
-
@kristatos OSK fix seems to be merged, i am also waiting for adb
-
@uxes OSK still seems not to work (e.g. morph and messages).
@mariogrip Is it intended to install updates only when connected to the power supply? Before Noble it was always possible to install OTA's without beeing connected to AC. Maybe there can be a hint that says it's safer being connected to AC, but let's you install the update even without being connected. -
@kristatos That the fix was merged does not necessarily mean it has already made it into the latest build. Best to wait for a few releases, or an official announcement before reporting it as still not working.
-
@arubislander The merge was done some hours before the actual build, so I thought, it's already included. Let's see what the next days will bring
-
@arubislander Tried again on 3a no wipe no bootstrap same result everything crashes, well system settings morph and uNav was all I tried.
@uxes adb works on my OP5 jfi -
@Lakotaubp ADB works on my Pixel 3a too, You just have to make sure Developer Mode is toggled on. You might need to toggle it off then on again to get it to show up (no need to reboot in between).
-
Todays update brings forth the keyboard!!
-
A shame for suzu there is no noble build yet. I would love to try it out.
-
@Lakotaubp I can confirm this bybwritignthis message on my UT device in a web app!!
