Struggling with Telegram.
-
@lakota Hi @lakota, on my M10 tablet I'm running the telegram app by the Ubports Telegram Team. Telegram is still running OK on my android phone.
-
@dtarranttestThanks for that. Can you see if you can set up one of the other web apps on ubports as a test, when you gave time no rush. : )
Also are you on stable, RC or dev. -
@lakota Hi @lakota, I've just installed Telegram Web App by Jorge Ulbricht and it seems to be working fine. I'm running stable on my M10.
-
@dtarrant OK thanks for that. So it might be an issue with the ubports telegram app, though what I'm not sure. @Flohack mentions it not conrcting to all the data centers above. If you have time could you follow his advice and post the logs from logviewer when the app hangs. It might help solve this.
-
@lakota Over the recent few days when Ubports telegram stopped working, I noticed that telegram.org was down. When it came back the FAQ page reported there had been a major outage due to loss of power in Amsterdam. I assume that this was responsible for my problems.
-
@dtarrant OK great. Have you tried the ubports app again
-
Yesterday, after the Telegram outage was fixed, I lost connection to Telegram servers with both 15.04 and 16.04 devices, using different networks, at the same time, but I could use Telegram in my desktop (Debian) maybe because I was log in already.
The only suspicious message I could find was this (and I don't know if it's really related):
Type error: Cannot read property 'registered' of null
When trying to open the Telegram app, I was welcomed just by a blank screen.
I deleted
/home/phablet/.config/com.ubuntu.telegram/[phone_number]/auth
and automagically I've received a new code (in my Telegram desktop client). I entered that code in the phone, and Telegram is alive and kicking again. Why that problem happened in the first place, I don't know, but I think something went very wrong with yesterday's Telegram outage.
-
@lakota Yes, still working fine.
-
@lakota I've installed logviewer, but not sure how to use it. Can't see telegram in list of logs. Please advise. Thanks.

@dtarrant logviewer review & tutorial: https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-blog-1/post/logviewer-102
-
@advocatux Thanks, I'll study that page.
-
@dtarrant you're welcome. Keep in mind logviewer works fine in 15.04 but not in 16.04 for now.
-
Hi @advocatux
I was wondering if we needed a post - perhaps in "News" - which lists apps that work in 16.04. Devs could then post the news of their updated apps...
-
@advocatux Here's my first attempt http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/wKpFyzdFNM/ is this what we need?
-
@dtarrant yep, that's perfect for a first attempt
What's happening with your telegram app exactly?
-
@advocatux Since I succeeded in re-installing it yesterday, it's been working fine thanks.
-
@3arn0wl some developers are working now on splitting up OpenStore in two parts, one for 15.06, and the other for 16.04.
When the new OpenStore is up and running, we'll be able to know at a glance which apps are (or aren't) working in xenial.
We'll have to wait for a while but that option is better than someone installing and testing all the apps (meaning I doubt someone volunteers for that), and because there are apps without maintainer now, developers making apps just for 16.04, etc
-
Yeah I guess, @advocatux
-
Hi all,
For what it's worth, I've also been struggling with Telegram this morning (on Turbo 15.04 Dev v61) hanging at the phone number prompt, whilst online wirelessly using my university's eduroam network. However, the moment I switched from eduroam to the university's guest network and tried again, the code popped up immediately and I'm using Telegram!

I've had similar issues with Telegram,
What helped to bypass that white screen of death is to login to the web client on telegram website first,
Then uninstall the app & remove .cache/ ./config/
Reboot the phone,
Re install the app,
You will receive the code in your telegram web client.
