Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 call for testing

@pparent I tried your little experiment with Maps Exporter. The app launched in an x11 window, and the OSK was gone! This was a fresh install for me as I don't use Google Maps, but I verified that the OSK worked first when I launched it as a click the usual way by pressing the icon.
Ok so when you launch "Maps exporter" it in XWayland mode with the commands above you have no keyboard. Can you confirm it still is the case after refocusing on the XWayland window created by the adb/terminal commands ( by switching to another windows and going back, or by locking and unlocking the phone )?
@ida_ Thank you very much!
@klh said: immodules.cache hackIt seems to show that the bug is not specific to the "immodules.cache" configuration or even to maliit-inputcontext-gtk, but concerns any XWayland window using maliit.
-
@pparent Switching windows or locking/unlocking does not trigger the keyboard here either. Here is the output, in case it is relevant: https://pastebin.com/CG7sJg7T

@pparent maybe inform the people you are asking to run random commands that this will run said app unconfined.
Launching apps outside lomiri-app-launch is not going to help debug things, you are introducing a whole lot of additional uncertainties. I asked about immodules to know where to look, not assuming it's the reason.
Someone will look into it.
@ida_ thanks! Looks like it was missed in the packaging repos. You can generally file things in https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/ubuntu-touch/-/work_items if you are unsure where to put them.

Then we can always create a .click that will launch and XWayland Qml app. I suspect it will be the same result, but it could be tested to be sure.
Someone will look into it.
Great!

I can confirm the on screen keyboard doesn't show inside of Xwayland apps.
Tested in Whatsnew, the app runs fine, but no on screen keyboard ever appears when tapping any text input field. -

This glitch (in FP5) is still present: The "mobile data" indicator (the triangle) is empty, despite having good signal. I noticed that sometimes, after a restart I think, it fills slightly, and then it gets empty and stays there.
-
I'm running RC1 on an FP5, and here are some of my impressions and issues:
-
New Morph: It freezes from time to time (maybe a couple of times a day). Very good page rendering most of the time, things work as expected in a modern browser, sometimes even better on some sites than freshly updated Firefox on a desktop.
-
Snaps: I'm sort of confused by the whole thing. I love it as an experimental feature, and I've had fun playing around with Snaps in 2.x, but at this stage I think we need more guardrails for casual users. I've tried a bunch of Snaps, a lot of them marked in the Open Store as mobile friendly and convergent (a description inherited from Snapcraft, maybe?), and they rarely launch, and when they do there is no keyboard, reading/writing files is a problem, copy+paste is not working etc. I really appreciate the effort being put into getting Snaps to work and I want it to continue, but including it without properly sorting the apps by usability in the store is just really confusing, despite the warning that pops up.

The OSK sometimes overflows on the sides. This issue comes and goes, usually it disappears if I switch from Norwegian to English and back to Norwegian. Like in the picture. I have not seen this issue before in 1.3, it appeared a few days ago in 2.x and it happens in RC1.

-
No OSK in the x11 apps.
-
Finicky Bluetooth. Since switching to the RC, I have not been able to connect my Pebble properly, but some other devices connect more easily than in 1.3.

it looks dependent on type of connection and maybe operator?
I have a FP5 with Freemobile in France and I don't see this problem.
BTW, I have posted on the 26.04 a trick to see the ofono data on which the indicator is based but it did not get much traction, only one person posted a few data and it did not seem that the indicator itself was at fault, it looked as more or less reflecting the underlying ofono data (so something that may depend on the operator or even connection type).
-
@Ida_ I just reproduced this by mistake on FP4, I wonder if it has something to do with the Norwegian one because it only happened after I enabled it to check. It also has a bit different symbol layout than English.

Ok I think I can actually pretty consistently reproduce this with the Norwegian layout.
-
@klh Wow! Cool that you tried. For me it seems to happen mostly on first use shortly after a reboot so far, but it did happen one time many hours after the last reboot too.
-
@Ida_ ok, now I got it - leave it on Norwegian, lock the screen, unlock and type in your passcode - will be broken. issue link

I have installed 24.04-2.0 on my Fairphone 5, it works well, thanks !
I really appreciate the notch adaptation and the new Morph browser.
I've seen in the blog post the home encryption is not anymore an expiremental feature. Could/should I try the data migration with this beta release ?
For the Morph browser, when I visit the swiss train company website https://cff.ch :
- the selector of rail station works well now (with morph browser qt 6 beta, the list of proposed rail station missed the white background)
- the website seems to make Morph browser freeze or go out of memory, because when tab switching make every page fully reload (this was not happening with the Morph Qt 6 beta app)
-
Does the 24.04.-2.0 update already include the Mir server update (to 2.x)? If so, I'd be interested to know whether the entire screen is touch-responsive in landscape mode when using uWolf or other XWayland apps. This likely relates to this bug: https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/core/lomiri/-/merge_requests/207
Unfortunately, I canβt test it myself right now because I donβt have a device on hand to install the update on...
-
@phandersson May I ask if Morph is/was working for you on the Volla Quintus in 24.02-2.x?
-
For the supported devices shall we switch to daily channel .I want to know the daily channel for 24.04-2.x is updated and available .Also the devices in the second list is upgraded with sufficiant space to receive 24.04-2.0 beta or daily?
