Computers and the Internet provide complete freedom but are being buried under a mountain of corporate control. To everyone involved in ubPorts who must at times feel downbeat about the project, I say remember why Ubuntu Touch was founded. To give back the software freedom and privacy we have had taken from us.

Very good point and it is easy to forget why we are all here when things play up a bit. Nice to be reminded and of course welcome to the Forum and Community.

          Hi everyone,

I forgot to introduce myself. I am a physical scientist, self-employed and am rather new to Ubuntu Touch, as evidenced by my previous posts.

I have been running full GNU Linux on my main PCs since 2017, while leaving one laptop with W10. In January, I decided to give that XPS the Linux treatment.

I tried distro-hopping in my early Linux days from 2008 to 2011. Then went to Ubuntu 12.04, then disto-hopped again. In 2014, I decided to return to Ubuntu, since I am using my PCs in a business environment and I just find that it's just easy with this distro.

In my earlier years, I studied software but then decided to do the sciences/research and converted coding as a minor hobby. I now have good knowledge with system security and privacy just because I had to learn it to secure business systems.

I have some contribution to the open source community but, at the moment, my schedule is too packed for such development.

This forum seems straightforward and I like it. The devs and moderators are also knowledgeable.

My normal phones gave me some form of discomfort because I know how these devices communicate to HQs. Lately, when using those devices, it's like baring a different part of oneself to the major corporations. The tracking is just so out-of-place.

I decided to go Linux on phones. UT is my first venture into this and I am totally satisfied. The battery life is longer, everything is just lower-level efficient.

I tried this on an older Android device and the UT version has a much longer battery life. It just works.

Other Linux-dedicated phones are on my radar especially the Pinephones or Librem but I will get them to mature a bit. Cheers.

This is really surprising! Most of the time people feel that the battery life on UT is not as good as on Android. Maybe you could open a new thread and elaborate on your previous Android config on that device compared to your current UT config?
I know I would be interested in hearing more.

I will write a thread about my rather smooth UT installation experience and will mention battery life in it.

Hello, I'm fairly enthousiastic about the entire Linux project. I'm trying to learn some qml because I like coding and am studying the equivalent of computer sciences. Hopefully I can offer some hands-on help somday πŸ˜‰

Enthousiast. Previously used Redmi note 7, now on Fairphone 4.

                                Hello there,

i m an entusiast and installed UB on my old Xiaomi 4x. There are some minor bugs, but thats not that bad, i m aware its a community device. Most of a time it works fine. BUT: whats really striking about a UB device is the emotional dimension! When i first got out with it and took it for a walk with my earbuds and my beloved podcasts turned on, i realized what a GOOD FEELING it is, not to be tracked and spied on. I instantly felt like I was 14 years again, wandering outside with my old walkman and headphones on. Thank you for that! I love it!

Now i m up to get a better device meeting my nerd needs like pixel 3a. Keep up that good work! Maybe i ll contribute within my possibilities.

Greetings UBports community! My name is Camden and I'm an avid mobile Linux fan. I have helped port a device and am currently porting a device to Sailfish.

I have a collection of phones which include a Samsung Galaxy: SII, S5(x2), Note 9, and A52s. Along with a OnePlus 6, Google Pixel XL, Nexus 5x and PinePhone.

I love Ubuntu Touch and have had an interest for many years, I got my first proper Ubuntu Touch-compatible phone in 2021. This was the PinePhone UBports edition, and later the OnePlus 6 which I have tried to daily drive a couple of times.

I am a software developer, using mosty Javascript and Java in my current job, but have done some Scala, D, a little C++/Qt 4 and a bit of QML. I'm not sure if I will have enough time to help in OS' or core apps' development, but I will definitely throw in some testing, my feedback and ideas to discuss. And maybe someday I'll manage to start helping with the code as well.
