sorry for the bold text I don't understand how to change it...
Hi,
My name is Thierry, from Belgium, I'm very new to UBports, and my description is very near of Freco (I've also bought a N5 broken but usable, to stay tuned on smartphones, and learn how to repair it ), active in Open Source for a long time now, using Xfce for my desktops, I prefer velocity rather than shininess.
I code (almost for Blender) in Python and abit of /php-html. And I've never had a smartphone because of Google and Apple's monopolistic presence.
My N5 is for now only for testing, I'm on the dev update channel. At this stage I see that camera application is progressing I'd be happy to help with user experience if needed.
Keep UBports up, it seems very promising!tmaes

Hi, I'm Kugi Eusebio from the Philippines. Around late 20's
I'm a software engineer but only for a packaged application so nothing exciting
I've been using UT since 2014. My first UT device was a Nexus 7 2013 which I bought primarily to just install UT on it.
I was part of the Ubuntu Pioneers who are the very first ones to publish apps in the then Canonical's app store.
I bought a BQ E5 HD on 2015 which I used as my main phone until now. I also bought a 2nd hand Nexus 5 which I now use for my UT developments.I've bought a lot of stuffs because of UT......folding keyboards, bluetooth mouse, portable monitor, slimport adapters, OTG hubs, etc. So it's safe to say that I've invested time and money on UT
I currently have 4 apps in the OpenStore and I've been more active in the OS development recently with one-liner bug fixes and the recent OSK theming support.
Just saw this thread LOL

Hello, i'm Max, and for about 10 years i have been a Linux user. Since the last 3 years i only use Linux (so ditched Windows). At this moment i only use mainly Deepin and on older hardware Linux Mint. Since i am a privacy freak (thus hating Android) i came across Touch and now have installed it on an old LG-Nexus 4 i picked up. Installation was easy after watching the instruction video, just follow the instructions on the screen. The whole process took about 15 minutes and everything worked out-of-the-box so WiFi, bluetooth and normal telephone functions. Touch runs very smooth but i did ran into some minor bugs. I used Touch for a week now and i am happy with it but... I do miss some (for me) essential functions. I would like to choose another browser (like firefox) and i need WhatsApp working. Did found some info to get WhatsApp working but even with 10 years of linux experiance i do not understand these instructions. I am used to working in / with terminals but the instructions i read only lead to errormessages. I will keep on using Touch for now but also my good old Iphone 5 for Whatsapp. Hope there will be a solution so i can fully switch to Touch. Who knows..

@Max Hi and welcome!
Sorry to say, Whatsapp is no option currently as the App and the protocol are closed source, and the workaround with Loqui IM is also not working anymore if I am right. I also think that Facebook will never choose to make a client for UT as they cannot collect user metrics for their tracking and advertisements from Ubuntu Touch

Hey guys,
I'm not sure I should reply here, since this topic isn't pinned, and nobody replied to it for the past 6 months.
I've registered to the forum 3 weeks ago, but in any case: I've been a Ubuntu desktop user since 2007/2008, I was once a wiki admin and contributor for the Ubuntu-fr.org community, and I've contributed to the FreeCAD community from 2010 until now, among other things being a wiki admin (FreeCAD is an open source parametric CAD program that runs on Linux, Windows and macOS).
I've been wanting to free myself of Google's clutches for a while, and salvaging a discarded Nexus 5 with a cracked screen gave me the opportunity to test UT on it. I was really impressed with the ease of use of the UBports installer! Soon after I purchased a used OnePlus One because the N5 simply doesn't have enough storage space for me (16GB). My goal is to make the OPO my daily driver once I've set up everything I need.
I must say that I find the user documentation for UT sorely lacking, struggling at first to do the most simple tasks. I found useful info in the blogs, which should be found in the documentation, IMHO. Consequently I'm thinking about trying to contribute to it.
That's about it for now...
Cheers,
Normand

Hi there I thought that Ubuntu Touch is dead but I see that "Dead can dance". I currently looking for some good smartphone to install UT. I would like to test it for web development. I want to install NodeJS, Atom, etc. and test the performance. The first problem I have is choosing a smartphone for that purpose.
May the force be with you. -
@zbigiman Welcome aboard. Have a look here https://ubports.com/meet-the-community and here https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/

Hi, I'm a danish librarian with a background in comparative literature, and a place in my heart for Free Software. I've been using UT on my nexus 5 for a little more than a year now, and have recently made the switch to OpO. Never looked back. I simply love the community around this OS and seeing the apps and functions grow.
Planning on giving the N5 to a friend of mine, that I'm trying to get hooked on UT too.If he doesn't want it, I'll mail it to some tech-media in Denmark, along with a letter of introduction - to get UBports some mention.
Seeing as there is a marketing group - what about an activism group?, or does that fall under the same category?
I also really love the 'eco'/'green' aspect of this OS - and most FLOSS in general - that it enables you to buy used hardware and give it new life. For instance, my OpO is made out of 100% reused materials, since I bought it second hand.
Huge thanks to everyone involved in this magnificent OS!

Hi everyone!
My name is Florian and IΒ΄m from the north-west of germany ("Ostfriesland")... I`m an interested user in all kind of open source, and I like free-thinking in general...
Two or three years before I owned a E5 and a M10FHD. Then I stopped using UT, but now IΒ΄m back on it... But now with a Nexus 5 and a M10HD. My old devices are no more mine...
I like UT very much, but I need some support from community...
Best regards!
Florian

Hi all!
My name is Beduries and I live in the south-west of Germany, next to France and Switzerland.
I have nothing in common with computing. I work in a city administration as a civil registry clerk.I like the spirit of UT and used it in the year 2017 on my smartphone without an alternative. Despite of missing a tasks app like by Android, I use UT on an OPO device on the evenings to read and surf through the internet. I hope to change back someday to UT.
Kind regards
Beduries
