@DansLeRuSH Maybe it isnt added yet.

It would be nice having an port for the GS290. Chinese smartphones may be better but having the option to buy one which isnt build on inhuman working conditions, would be nice - at least in my opinion.

@makeixo Probably (for GS290). And yes it's another subject but I totally agree, I don't know Gigaset especially but I take the decision to systematically ask the manufacturer about the production conditions before purchase.

@DansLeRuSH Well, thats acutally known. Gigasets manufactures in Germany with a high degree of automation. ~ 60% automation. ~ 40 % manual labour without typical assembly lines.

@makeixo OK, I definitively put Gigaset in the whitelist (and thank you for the video) :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@DansLeRuSH They may not play in the same league with the fairphone and shiftphone guys but in my opinion its better than nothing.

@makeixo I didn't even know Shiftphones (thanks) and yes, for hardware, the origin of the raw materials, the manufacturing conditions and the reparability ... or AT LEAST one of the three must be taken into account

@DansLeRuSH well, they are a quite small startup.

In my opinion they would be still a perfect fit for UT or SFOS, but I don't think we will see UT on a shiftphone soon. The shiftphone devices are still rare, therefore I dont think someone will port them for UT

                        Nice, official UT support.

Anyone knows if this is indeed using Halium9 as previously indicated?

Might this open easy porting to other recent Gigaset mobiles with similar hardware?

                        Fairphone 5 (waiting for port)

As for having a really modern phone for the supposed end of the year, it would have been nice to have it support 5G.

Also, I wonder how functional the phone is already, as there are sales pictures showing it with UT installed.

I wish a fruitful technological partnership between Volla and Ubports.

I have heard several times that they think about to build an image which doesn't net the halium android layer. Is that even possible?

Does anyone know how good/bad the camera is?

@makeixo I think UT on Volla phone is using Halium 9.

Main Camera is 16 MPX which is not bad at all. (As good, or even better than an IPhone 8 for example)

@stanwood said in Volla phone (is back and) will be a new UT phone in 2020:

@makeixo I think UT on Volla phone is using Halium 9.

Main Camera is 16 MPX which is not bad at all. (As good, or even better than an IPhone 8 for example)

MPX is not everything. I wouldnt bet on that fotos of the volla phone are better than the iPhone8. But when the camera works properly I would love to see a comparison.

I know that the volla phone needs Halium9 at the moment, I am refer to if it would be possible to build an image of UT some day which works without it and with mainline kernel like the pinephone does.
