M10 HD on boot loop after trying usbports-installer

Ok, with all you help I was able to install (a very old version of) Ubuntu Touch in my device.
A very quick question before I go ahead, is it safe to use the automatic UBports installer now? Developer mode is enabled but for some reason while my laptop detects the device (I can access it from the file manager), UBports-installer does not, so I can select the device manually (M10 HD aka cooler) but I am not sure whether this is safe...
Also, if I go forward with the manual selection, should I "wipe personal data" (unmarked by default) or "flash system partitions using fastboot" (marked by default)? Just asking to be sure!

Did you start the installer before plugging in the device and did you get a pop-up window on the device asking to allow usb debugging?
As you now have a clean, but old, os on the device you don't need to select wipe on the installer. I don't know about the 'fastboot' tickbox but I left it marked by default .

@Angela_92 You should be safe. Dev mode on, permission for adb granted. If you want a double check run fastboot devices followed by adb devices to check your system sees the m10, but thats upto you. Then just run the installer.

adb devices lists it but fastboot devices does not, would this be OK?

What output did you get from fastboot devices ? Was it just nothing or no permissions?

@Angela_92 I don't know. I think you need to see your device in fastboot, but it might be better to hear from one of the others who know a lot more than I do.
You did get the 'allow usb debugging' pop-up window on your device when plugging in to installer?

Now I have a shiny device running ubuntu, I might have a new question: how can I run Firefox and Libreoffice? I've learned those are kind of pre-installed in a container called "puritine" and I can see the package list in settings > libertine > desktop applications. I've also read that I can access such kind of apps from the "desktop apps" (icon is a big "X") but if I hit that I get "no applications available, install new applications with the Libertine manager", any hint on how to do this?

@Angela_92 System Settings, battery then set sleep when idle to never. Then go to Libertine in system settings and tap on the plus. Then just press ok ( Fill in details if you want but not really needed) leave it to do it's stuff. When finished tap on container name and tap on plus sign top left and enter details.
Please remember Firefox is not really usable and I'm not sure on Libreoffice it's been ages since I had a look. -
@Lakotaubp I thought of Firefox because it's the browser I have on my laptop, but if it's not usable here I'd better get used to the new one. Regarding Libreoffice, I just need to open spreadsheets and perform very basic operations, if there is an easier way to do this, I'd be happy...

@Angela_92 I don't know if one of the "note" type apps in the store would do what you need.

Hi!
I have a similar problem - after unlocking my bq m10 FD it ended up in
"Orange State", and a boot loop, and I am not able to stop that boot loop or get access to the device via fastboot, or adb or the flash tool. Angela_92 wrote she had been able to break that loop. Unfortunately she did not mention how she was able to stop that loop... Any ideas on that?THX

@mrt10001 thanks, but that doesn't help me at all. As I wrote I can' t access the device. The boot loop persists, no matter what I do. It reboots every 5- to 10 seconds, showing the same message:
"Orange State
Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted.
Your device will boot in 5 seconds"I can't turn it off, it just keeps rebooting to show the orange state message.

@hankschwie Hold the power button down for a long time (sore finger). It may switch off. If you get it to switch off, hold volume up and down buttons and then plug in the charger.
Is it plugged into a PC on a USB 2.0 port?
