@trainailleur VoLTE does work on my Nexus 6P- experimental UT build. It also works on the PinePhone. So, it should work on the Pinetab.
Very good news about the PinePhone! Thanks for letting me know. Haven't gotten up to speed with it lately, and haven't watched the latest Q&A, but something said in the previous Q&A had make me think VoLTE was dead in the water for now. Glad to be mistaken.
I have a ZTE Trek 2 HD, an 8 inch android tablet. The call kit works on it with Lineage OS, Kang, and other ROMs, as does SMS.
What was the "call kit"? Was that an add-on? Sorry, I'm not familiar with this device. I'm set up to build Lineage, so a working Lineage 8" phone would be a good one to deploy to people who ask me about such things.
I am trying to put together a Halium build, but I'm not a Dev, so it's not going easy. My last last attempt to port a device failed because of a device tree issue. I have greater confidence in this one because all the sources including vendor are well documented - it has a perfectly running Lineage 14.1 build and I think is a great candidate for UT. If I am successful, it will make a nice 8" phone.
That would be very cool. Best of luck!

@trainailleur VoLTE is not controllable in the software, But, it does negotiate and run at least on T-mobile - because of the Sprint conversion. T-mobile has turned it on for any device on their network. I know AT&T has done the same. Verizon requires you to call and input a code to turn it on for your phone.
The call kit is the software that interacts with the modem to place calls. On XDA-Developers you'll find where someone patched it for the Trek 2. I tried it. It works, but it's buggy. Voip works perfectly though to make calls - Google Voice , Linphone, etc. The Trek 2 and the LG Gpad X 8 both work really well. I have hopes those two will make for good ports to UT. They are both very well documented and supported after-market .

@rocket2nfinity , many thanks for the info!
-
@Loops Not at this time. It is, however, much less relevant on the PineTab as it can be charged via a barrel connector.
-
@PINE64 I suppose you are correct, an oversight on my part. Thanks
-
Now that PineTab is available as 'Braveheart' I cannot wait for the production version (sporting USB-C?) to have the whole family converted to Pine64/Ubuntu Touch devices.
-
It has been said that "these devices are the equivalent of the PinePhone Braveheart edition and are not final product".
Does that mean that there will then be a PineTab "Community Edition: UBports" as for the PinePhone ?
-
@libremax Nope, there won't be any 'editions' of the PineTab per se, but we may rotate the OS it ships with
-
I just got a notification from DHL that my PineTab has shipped.
At this point in time what should we expect of the functionality of the PineTab?
Looking at https://gitlab.com/ubports/community-ports/pinephone and https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/PineTab I can't see much general info on how to start using it...
Do we have to boot from SD card?
Is this the best place to get builds?

@halucigenia Mine too, arriving today apparently
I believe it comes pre-installed with ubports
What state of development it'll be in is less clear
I'm presuming that it'll track the pinephone pretty closely as it's more or less a different form factor for the same internals, but I guess we'll see -
@theare27 I can't believe it, I just checked and mine is arriving today too, I expected it in a couple of days. Next day delivery from China to the UK - wow.
-
@halucigenia
Congrats!
Looking forward to reading your experiences -
Got it, typing this from the PineTab...
-
so far i found a few issues (for me) - it seems like sd-card can't be read
and bluetooth doesnt work.
oh and it wont power on when sdcard is in -
Checking my bluetooth headhones on my PinePhone on dev shows that they are working. I will switch to the dev channel. And
I see that the PinePhone is just getting an update on dev too. -
The PineTab had UBPorts Ubuntu Touch installed and no updates were available on the stable channel.
The device connected to wifi no trouble.
Morph Browser works OK to access the web - Youtube videos played but the sound was a bit disappointing.
No sound through headphones and Bluetooth headphones not connecting.
Updating to dev now... -
Bluetooth still not working on PineTab on dev...
-
@OldGrumpySwede
https://gitlab.com/ubports/community-ports/pinephone/-/issues/8sd-card is now usable after the fix provided in above thread from Kevin Keijzer
still not bootable with sd-card in though -
Is rotation working for you guys? I'm stuck in portrait it seems. Rotation itself seems to work. At least it did in the 5min on Mobian.
-
Rotation not working, but I am stuck on landscape.
