Developers sponsorship: I want to order an app (that means paying for it)!

All noted. Response sort.

There's a video downloader called Vulgry. It was working well before but I think the last time I tried it, it wasn't working anymore. I'm not sure if the original developer is still active but if not, maybe someone just needs to fork it and fix it. I can do it, just pay $500 upfront just kidding...maybe I can look into it when I get the chance and enough interest.
-
@kugiigi I'm serious!
-
This should be quite easy as Video Downloader is just a simple frontend to the python commandline app youtube-dl https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl .
The main issue will be keeping it updated as youtube-dl is prone to breaking and updates often.Edit: Why not run it with libertine?

On a second thought: Does Morph support some kind of plugins or extensions? This would certainly make sense to have directly in Morph

@C0n57an71n Very interesting idea, love it , but as simple as it sounds implementation might be tricky. How would one make sure that devs get paid at some point, that the code remains open source.
I don't think this would work without a somehow enforceable contract between the solicitor of the app and the dev. At which point would the dev get paid ? Once the app is in OpenStore ? What if the dev does not get paid ? Who would remove the app from OS ? At this point it might have been downloaded many times already. Who would pay for maintenance of the app, updates etc....
I am sure that this would work out in good faith for most of the community members but disputes (satisfaction of the solicitor, criteria for fulfillment of app specs etc.) will arise and who would then be the arbitrator ?
These kind of "bounty" schemes do exist, I am not sure however how potential disputes would be addressed. -
@nogoogle I don't know how for others will work, but for me will be like this: after I got a price and a relative flexible deadline I'll pay half at the beginning and the other half when the job is done. Regarding open-source: well, the app should be open sourced.
-
@nogoogle Regarding maintanance of the app: once the app is in OpenStore I will have nothing to do anymore with the app since it never belonged to me, is the community that will have to take it further as I did my part and payid for it to reach rhe OpenStore.
-
@kugiigi If you think you can do it, just give me an aproximation of: required hours, time when it would should be ready and an amount. Half of the sum will be paid before, half when the job is done. I have no special requirements other that the app should pe capable to download audio and video.

Just for reference sake as I have no clue what kind of money we're talking about when developers would go semi-volunteering for an existing app? I have made some donations in the past but never seen a rule of thumb in this regard. I might be interested in listing a few apps and pay for it just like @C0n57an71n .
I would like to have the app(s) in accordance with AppArmor. What would be the appropriate way, the rules to be met and time frame (read: 'delay') for the apps to get AppArmor'ed? Any pointers?
-
@C0n57an71n I sent a mail to Johan Guerreros (Vulgry) explaining the situation : maybe there will be a feedback (or not).
-
@domubpkm Thanks, I was considering that, but it didn't knew if it is appropiate... The app wasn't maintained for a long time.

Hello guys
Vulgry developer here, i stoped the development since i lost my nexus 5 and i cant buy a new one in my country also i tried to import some of the supported devices without success so that is my main reason to stop the development because i cant test the app but i will look at the source code now and i will try to fix it.

Thank you for your answer. Can you explain this sentence ?

Presumably an issue with clearing customs or such.

Beyond being confined apps, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here.
-
@domubpkm I tried to buy a nexus 5 on ebay and also a one plus one twice and the shipments did not arrive

What does it take for a developer to get an app being marked as AppArmor confined app?
-
@johangm90 I can send you mine when my PinePhone arrives, hopefully next week since it's already almost 3 months since I ordered. Or I can buy you one and ship it to you. If you want to develop further Vulgry app, I will help you with money.

Looks like its working now, no changes made in code just a quick fix in the api service.
Can someone test it and confirm if it is working?
