Hi, I would like to ask if it's advisable to install Ubuntu Touch with a bad battery Nexus 5. I just bought a second hand Nexus 5 and I just noticed that it shuts down when I remove the USB cable. It has about ~5 minutes of usage without the cable but after that, it shuts off. My suspicion is, it has a bad battery. I wanted to try Ubuntu Touch for a very long time now and just wanted to be user it's safe. Thanks all and keep safe!

Never mind, I did install it and encountered issues but I think it's not related to battery. I think I'm stuck with the image of Nexus 5 powered by Ubuntu. I'll try to ask this as a separate question. Thanks all!

@nebulom Replace it with the PolarCell LG Nexus 5 D820/D821 battery. Best aftermarket battery i've found

@nebulom Try booting to recovery clearing cache, choose wipe on the installer and try again if you think the install did not work and test adb is seeing the device correctly. Bad battery will obviously affect start up but it should work with cable.

@Lakotaubp thank you so much. I tried re installing it via UBPorts installer wiping all data and now it seems to be working and yay, I'm loving this OS. Will try to use it as often as possible and report anything for improvement. Thanks again and best regards.

@rocket2nfinity How long do you think the phone stays charged with that battery?

@saveurlinux thanks. Maybe around 5 mins and it instantly shuts off Managed to install successfully though. Replied from UT morph browser 😉

I believe @saveurlinux asked about lifetime of the PolarCell LG Nexus 5 D820/D821 battery, not yours :grinning_face_with_sweat:

@saveurlinux Depends on usage. If you use it like a regular phone (mostly idle except for phone calls and occasional email checking during the work day) it will last all day.

I however use it to do research while my family is at appointments. This is usually in four hour blocks of solid screen time scrolling through webpages in bright light. I usually have another hour or two of juice after that. If you are using maps, it runs out faster.

The Nexus 5 was never great on battery life. And this battery outperforms the original when it was new. Only the Nexus 5X battery hack lasted longer. But that's a lot of work to do.
