I really want to support UBports and other Linux distros, but it's getting a bit ridiculous with the whole situation. I'm really surprised by the amount of issues still present on the PinePhone. I mean, the headphone jack doesn't even work. Am I safe to assume that this device isn't going to be my daily driver for at least a few more years?

@C0n57an71n - True, but I do remember buying it in May, so I'm counting that! πŸ˜‚

@joelandsonja Today I get my Community Edition PinePhone, 3 months after I order it (issues with the hardware) so think about how many developers (not me) didn't had the chance to look into it. Plus, is an entire new thing, both hardware and software so it will take some time since nobody took this path before, but when done, we'll have a pure open source phone πŸ™‚

            Patience is a key here.

You cannot expect everything to work the way you intended.
This is a community effort which means you have to contribute ; this is the way.

Are you kidding me? Do you know when the Pinephone's getting an update? I've had this thing for roughly 6 months, and I have yet to use it in any serious way due to the multitude of issues. I really want to use UBports, but I'm on the verge of just giving up and installing Android.

Keep in mind that most of us here live with some bugs since the beginning of UT :), but we are still there and even stronger than before.
Please don't blame developers, contribute instead.

@Keneda, this message reads as mocking. I trust that you didn't mean it this way, but please consider the effect that messages like this can have on people considering Ubuntu Touch and looking in to our community.

I found him very rude here with ubports and the Β«thingΒ», but decided to make a joke using his own words ("are you kidding...") instead of being rude back.

But maybe it's already rudeness doing this...

I'll add that someone who really want to use uTouch should choose a not work in progress porting phone.

If he came here before making that choice people including me would have warned him about that. Now he comes here "threatening" to install android, that made me laugh.

                    I apologize... A little.

I'm mostly posting out of frustration. I actually don't own any other smartphone, because I don't like the idea of being tracked and traced by anyone. However, I have since purchased a VPN, and the Pinephone allows me to use hardware kill switches, so it seemed like the obvious choice. I was hoping this thing would see some improvements over the last few months, but I have yet to see any of these problems resolved, or even mentioned during the UBports livestream. I've sent countless bug reports, but nothing ever seems to get fixed. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work they're doing, but it's frustrating as hell to wait for these updates.

@joelandsonja Bug reports are a great way to help so thanks for that, they are looked at and used. You may also like to look at https://t.me/pinephone PinePhone group on Telegram and have a look and use the search facility on the Forum for more info. The PinePhone is new in all sorts of ways and things do take time, which we know can be frustrating, but please stick with it. I'm sure it will pay off.

@joelandsonja The pinephone is currently a huge challenge for developers. In my opinion, it will take at least another 6 months for it to be properly usable and a year for it to become good: it's subjective, and I hope to be wrong for the best. Another partnered smartphone, the volla-phone will be very correctly usable much faster: planned for November.

Huge diffrence is vollaphone is android based device, wich is a well known basis for porting, and volla is part of the port effort, while pine64 only support harware for pinephone.

Anyway, pinephone should not be chosen for daily use at the moment.

                              @Keneda I won't say otherwise.
But I will still say that not all was done in one day for the volla-phone which did not leave from a totally unknown land but to be explored... πŸ˜‰
