Sorry to bump this again, but it would have probably been lost in the original N6P thread now that it is closed. Just pasting from https://forums.ubports.com/post/41423:

I'm not sure whether this is a device specific issue, but one thing I have been experiencing since the beginning with this port is the following:

      https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/1174

In a nutshell, the pictures taken with the camera always have the same orientation relative to the phone, instead being rotated properly relative to the ground by using the reading from the accelerometer.

I know this is more of an annoyance rather than a critical bug... Any known solutions or workarounds?

@lgtrombetta You used to have to do the following with every system update:

        HOWTO Install new camera layer

Porters only: Make sure that you update your tree for droidmedia with repo fetch halium/droidmedia!

Open a console to the device
        sudo -i
        mount / -o remount,rw
        umount /lib/udev/rules.d/70-android.rules
        ubports-qa install xenial_-_gst-droid
        ARM64 only: apt install gstreamer1.0-droid nemo-qtmultimedia-plugins

If you encountered unable to make backup link of '<a path>' before installing new version: Invalid cross-device link error, unmount it by running sudo umount <path without the prepending dot> it and try again.

The error ERROR:ubports-qa:Failed to remount root filesystem read-only. is normal and expected. Proceed to the next step.

Reboot your phone to make sure everything is in place.

        Install new camera app:
Open a console to the device
        32bit here: https://static.peat-network.xyz/junk/ubports/com.ubuntu.camera_3.1.2+gstdroid3_armhf.click
        64bit here: https://static.peat-network.xyz/junk/ubports/com.ubuntu.camera_3.1.2+gstdroid3_arm64.click

Install AS USER (not in sudo mode): pkcon install-local --allow-untrusted <file name>

          @rocket2nfinity said in Camera rotation:

          ubports-qa install xenial_-_gst-droid

Trying on devel, this step attempts to upgrade 31 packages, and downgrade 3: ubuntu-sdk-libs ubuntu-touch-core ubuntu-touch-hybris

It doesn't seem like a good idea... it is probably too old a solution.

Did it solve the problem back then?

@lgtrombetta It did then, but not now. Just tried it. Crashes Unity 8 UI. Easily fixed with an update though. So no harm no foul.

@Flohack What's the current method to get the camera files oriented right in the gallery now?

@rocket2nfinity It's not a good idea to use apt right now due to the ongoing merging of qt5.12. Try again once the completion of this activity has been announced.

                Yeah camera is a problem....

Well the gstdroid branch installation is still the option of choice. Actually we are in the process of merging those pieces together, but now everything is blocked by the Qt 5.12 upgrade - that means, currently installing custom packages with apt can easily break your system, so its not recommended. I would say in a few days it should work flawlessly again πŸ˜‰

That said, this will fix rotation and allow pictures from both cameras, but it will probably break video recording as N6P is one of those 64bit devices where this branch causes a strange regression. I hope we will be able to fix this soonish.

@flohack @kugiigi @rocket2nfinity thank you for the information. I guess I'll have to wait until after the Qt 5.12 upgrade.

About video recording, for me it isn't working anyway, so if at least we can fix the camera rotation it would be an overall improvement.

I just realized now that this problem has been solved (devel). Camera now rotates images properly. I don't know exactly when it happened.

                    In any case, great work!

Not quite solved. Selfies show up sideways.

@flohack @rocket2nfinity Indeed, only the back camera is rotating pictures properly.

Could it have been the Qt 5.12 update?

@flohack It's recording something. But can't play it back with media viewer, nor UT Media player

@Flohack I stand corrected, it does play if i select the file through files in UT Media.

Magic?, Or did you do something?

It might be the same thing as for the Nexus 5.
Video playback doesn't work, but UT Media might be working with CPU handling video decoding...

Edit: I think opening a file using UT Media player doesn't work.
But opening the file from it is working.

@applee One can also use this brand new video player for Ubuntu Touch (just released some minutes ago). Works fine with my Nexus 5....

I echo Stan's comments about the new player on N5, but then Media Player also works for me.

@stanwood strange. It (uvideo player) just opens with a blank black screen on mine. Does not play videos.
