Any comments on the "Anbox on UT" GoFundMe campaign from a core developer perspective? https://www.gofundme.com/f/anbox-on-ut

Florian took some valuable time to discuss again the lack of standards and other mess around VoLTE in the Telegram group this week and why it isn't an easy job for UT to tackle. Thanks for the insights!
What about the discussion at the pine64 forum on carriers with known VoLTE compatibility for the pinephone using postmarket OS? T-Mobile, for example, was confirmed working by one person replying. Maybe there is hope? https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=12560
For others, it seems the best place to look at the UT situation with VoLTE is this thread: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/2626/volte-and-3g-shutdowns

@rik This is a community driven project. UBports foundation is not directely involved in.
At this point an experimented developper has been hired. Volla just sent her a Vollaphone (Thanks to Hallo Welt / Volla team) as working device.
As soon as she receives the smartphone she will start to work on.
You will find the latest updates on the campaign website. -
Any thoughts on dual booting devices? It seems there are new efforts for that in the Android space and some devices have A/B system image booting that might work also for dual-booting.
Is that something that the Ubports installer could support? Like install UT and LinageOS the same time on devices that support such dual-booting?

Hello I don't have a UT phone yet (it is in shipment) but I would like to add a question : I see in the forum several methods to synchronize Nextcloud/Owncloud/strandard CarDAV (some say you have to use small letters, some others propose their own script here and there).
What is the right method (I mean, is the official documentation still up to date) and is it safe to enter your username and password in plain text in a script file? Do you plan to add an easy GUI interface (like the well-known Davx5 formerly known as Davdroid) to help non-developer users like me ?
Thank you and keep up the good work !

@stanwood yes, understood it is a community project. I am curious about the core developer perspective of working together with others like this.
Personally I think it is a good way to work since the core team doesn't have the time or capacity to work on this right now, so the community can step forward to support it getting done.
Hopefully all the work will merge together nicely to benefit everyone. BTW I am a contributor, I really am hopeful for this work!

CarDav doesn't work to sync contacts.
You can import them using an existing export.CalDav is implemented and works fine with the agenda
-
I have Volla with UT and I use nextcloud server at home. Calendar sync wors, but it terribly lacks contacts sync. Should i expect full support for nextcloud in near future ?
-
In QA96 has been said that much of intellectual property rights are still with Canonical and UBports sublicence it. Would it be theoretically possible that Canonical kills UT in future simply by withdrawing this sublicence ? What will happen when some future Pres. of the USA impose sanctions on Europe/Germany similar as it happened with Huawei ?

Ubports Will support Rust?
-
@fakone you can already make Ubuntu Touch apps in rust using clickable, the issue is more that qt/qml doesnt have good bindings for rust, but yes you can make apps in rust for ubuntu touch.
-
@applee Thank you. Too bad CarDAV does not work. As I am not a developer, I would like to know if there is a blocking point for making CarDAV (for instance, incompatibility with Qt), or just because it is not the priority for the team (meaning it is possible) ?
Thank you

Would you consider promoting a new small, modern, high-performance UT smartphone of a size equivalent to the BQ 4.5? This one will depreciate due to the gradual shut down of 3G networks.
What smartphone would you choose ? -
@povoq You can unofficially dual boot A/B devices if you have UT installed on one slot and any other OS installed on another slot. You can switch slots easily using bootclt commands or use a GUI app like https://open-store.io/app/switch-my-slot.shouko to do that.
-
@shouko Yes I noticed that. I was rather wondering if there is a chance for more official support, maybe via the Ubports installer.

@shouko Awesome! Thanks!!

Honestly, I haven't tried to install UT to a newer Android (9+) phone hanving A/B slots. So I have no idea what A/B options are even possible with the current installer. But, yep, I'd really like to have a way to install to a "B" slot, while leaving Android in the "A" slot untouched (or vice versa.)
@UniSuperBox If not already possible (which it doesn't seem to be), I hope that, sometime in the future, the UT installer will allow for installing UT to a "B" slot, while leaving the factory-shipped Android in the "A" slot untouched (or vice versa).
If that's already possible, that would be welcome news to me, and so I hope that you'll discuss in this (or maybe a future) Q&A.

Just to say thank you for answering my question. I appreciate a lot that you take regularly time to answer people questions, I don't remember other OS teams doing like that.
